Could be a possibility with Ross Lyon stating on AFL.com they are after a top pick for him. Collingwood as always involved in a lot of deals during trade week, their attention seems to be focused on Jolly and possibly Fev.

None the less there is only so many players you get get with limited picks, their is a possibility the luke ball deal will fall through. The questions remain. Will Ball remain a saint or go to the PSD for more game time? Should we take him?

I get the feeling Ball wants to just play AFL footy and yes i would take him PSD # 1, a perfect replacement (an upgrade in fact) on brock mclean.

Wouldn't say he is an upgrade on Brock McLean, but if he the best available in the PSD there is no doubt we should take him.

Wouldn't say he's an upgrade on McLean, remember Ball is a couple years older than Brock. If he's salary is suitable, we should grab him in the draft. He's likely to get picked up though.

He is an upgrade on McLean for sure. Plays a similar game, not a lot of penetration in his kicking but is as tough as they come and a good leader as well. I'd definitely have him for nothing, he's only 25 isn't he?

He did knock back a three-year-deal & a decent pile of cash from the Saints, so chances are he probably won't want to come to us unless he believes (just like we do) that there is a bright future on the horizon. I bet he'll take his 2nd & 3rd team of choice before the Pre-Season Draft. Collingwood are just stalling because they're trying to get all three of Ball, Jolly & Fev for Pick #14, coming to theatres soon as Mission Impossible IV.

Agreed. I don't think he is leaving the Saints for cash. I think you will find he is leaving to gain more game time but in a challenging flag team. If that doesn't happen I would have thought he would stay at St.Kilda on reduced coin.

Would love to snag him for nothing via PSD but I think it is a long shot!

yeah will want a top team, has already gone through the hard yards at St Kilda probably doesnt want to go throught it again

I doubt Ball would contemplate coming to us and it doesn't overly faze me as he's not what we need, but he is most certainly an upgrade on McLean. He's an AA and B&F winner. He's been a far better player at his best and still only 26.

I think Ball would definitely come to us.

He's leaving St.Kilda because he feels underappreciated and they offered him an insulting new contract.

I'd have him in a heartbeat and I think he would be great to have in our midfield. 100% professional who just puts his head down and works hard. Invaluable example to the young inside mids we have coming through. He could also help instill a winning culture at our club. We need some experience amongst our youth and J-Mac won't be around after next season.

I like Luke Ball and if he wants to get to Collingwood, I hope he gets there.

That said, he'd be a fantastic pick-up for nothing if he slips through to the PSD, and we're doing the right thing by getting in his ear. The loss of McLean opens up a slot for him, he's got a young midfield to work with, we're lacking the leadership and he's the role model off the field that Brock McLean never was.

A big tick for Harrington and co. if we can snag Ball.

Even if you dont rate him or see him as part of our future plans, if we drafted him for free - we could on-trade him next season for a second round pick even if he doesnt play well this year.

Big call but I would still prefer Mumford.

Or is he leaving because when lyons issued the challege to either step up or get out he choose to get out.

The trouble i see is the saints will want somethin decent for him, collingwood has traded pick 14 for Jolly which was agreed upon overnight.

There have been whispers of Leon Davis wanting go to SA or WA, the WA clubs have high picks and won't trade them, port will use thier picks on kids i dont believe Adelaide need Davis. Collingwood is going to have to give up something to get another good pick for Ball.

Lets not kid ourselves. Would be a fantastic pre-season for us if we got Ball in the PSD. Basically would translate to Pick 11 and Ball for Brock McLean. If he could get his body right would be an outstanding addition on and off the field. A much better player than McLean. Think a deal will get done but if it doesn't that would be a fantastic deal for us. I believe Ball just want's to play footy and hopefully we can convince him that in 3 years time when he is 28/29 we will be challanging hard for the Premiership. Fingers crossed Collingwood play hard ball (pardon the pun) and stuff this up and he becomes available for us

If a trade doesnt get done i am sure he could come to some sort of arrangment with the dees. I think we should really push for it... he's only 25 butbeen a club captain and will be the wise head we need. ATM the young players dont have any really good players to learn off. I think it would just help their development!

Collingwood have given up there 1st and third round picks for Jolly so that makes it harder for Ball to get to the Pies. Rumours are that they'll use Fraser as bait but I doubt that will interest the Saints.

If he's fallen out badly with Lyon we should be in his ear offering serious cash to come to Melbourne in the PSD and be cemented in the on-field leadership group (..until we trade him for a first round pick next year).

Mumford is gone, Burgoyne is gone, the Jolly deal was down with collingwood as mentioned above. So as far as the PSD is concerned... we need to go for Ball. I'd be delighted if we could get him... problem is... I'm not that lucky lol.

I'd nearly bet anything that a deal will be made this arvo and Ball will become a Pie.

He may still re-sign for the Saints, but that probably isn't looking likely given the push that was made to get him out of there.

The Saints have taken the three year deal they'd offered him off the table. So he'll have to accept an even lesser contract than the one he'd already rejected if he was to stay at St Kilda.
