Am I right in assuming Melbourne have got pick 1 in the pre-season draft or have GC got their hands in that cookie jar as well?

If it is ours there could be some interesting possibilities given the more scrupulous list management that all clubs will likely be doing at seasons end.

I guess it’ll mostly be older players looking for a new home which won’t fit with Melbourne’s youth policy (or salary cap constraints potentially) but you never know who might slip through. Supposedly Deledio is stalling with his contract (got no concrete evidence on that), in a far-fetched outlandish scenario that he somehow ended up in the PSD I’d be deelighted.

Any other younger players with potential that might end up there? I guess they’d have to choose not to nominate for the proper draft which could be risky if you’re wanting to extend a career, unless you were wanting to go to Melbourne specifically.

Got a good feeling about that pick, perhaps I’m just thinking about what we scored with it last year...

No idea what's out there - we need to reopen this thread after the November draft.

Any big bastard state league forwards in the mid 20's that can put a big body up there for a couple of years while Watts etc.. bulk up? I'm worried for the likes of Jurrah having to cop the best defenders next year as it is - why not get somebody with a big body who will at least provide another option.

Are you hinting HIM?

Are you hinting about THAT man?

Definitely need to look deeply into the WAFL and SANFL over the next few years.

I would scream with joy if we were somehow able to snare Deledio in the PSD, however it's one of those too good to be true scenarios.

He'll stay a Tiger.

Yeah, that would be fantastic, but I can't see it happening.

Still, imagine getting him, Scully and Trengove in the same off season

I sincerely doubt we'll be able to get Deledio in the Pre-Season for nothing. He'll either stay a Tiger or Richmond will want our #2 Pick for him. And if we were magically able to get him Pre-Season, I don't think we'd have the money to pay him.

How could you not know who he is????????

Rumour is that he will be picked tonight.....

Does this rumour have any substance?

I think the club could fit him in under the salary cap, but whether or not the club has the resources to go beyond their current cap level is another question.

We have had such success with state-league players with our PSD picks, I see no reason not to do the same this year.

Davey, Martin, Jurrah have all been PSD picks. Same again this year please, get Aaron to recommend another NT'er.

Heard it from someone who was at Casey training this morning & had lunch with the players..............

One big plus during trade week/the PSD etc is the fact our club will be viewed in a much more positive light this year than the last couple.

Anyone with half a footy brain will realise we've got a stockpile of young talent that will truly come alive in the near future and any players contemplating moving clubs will be much more happier considering a career with the MFC.

I can assure you that Lids will not just slip through to the PSD. If there is any truth in the rumors and the club is unable to sign him he will be traded. As that article says there are multiple clubs chasing him which will mean a trade would be made.

In the end I see it as highly unlikely that Lids will leave anyway and I expect to see a new contract reach over the next few weeks.

Yeah, I suppose we could fit him, but then the budget would be way too tight methinks.

Good comments, if Juddas was looking to move clubs now I think Melbourne would be a great option for him.

Long term, best thing that ever happened to us that we didn't get him. Visy can print off cardboard cutouts of him until eternity for all I care.

As for Brett, if we were to trade for him I think he would slot in perfectly & we could go for Butcher at pick 2 in the draft.

For that reason, unless Butcher goes nuts at draft camp I don't want Brett.

Wattsy, I'm surprised you didn't jump down my throat, with the mail I got today regarding Zomer, which by the way is the 1st time this bloke has been off the mark. (still a chance to be right I suppose).

After pumping his tyres all year, the news got me excited, I suppose I should have waited for official news.

The same person also said that the players are not all that comfortable with the team selection changes recently. The players believe they are being compromised.

I was actually hoping it would be true. Would of made the game abit more interesting then inventing imaginary margins which would be good to get under.

Unfortunately the writing is on the wall for Zomer. Seems like a lovely bloke, but he will either take a little while longer or is not up to it. Hopefully he trys hard in the preseason and has a big VFL year , which could possibly attract the eyes of recruiters. All that assumming he is not upgraded, which is highly unlikely seeming he has not played a game and has not played consistantly at VFL seniors.

Well it could still be happening, as he hasn't been named in Casey 1st's, even though he has been playing well. (coaches comments). A better option to keep, I still think, rather than Newton....

Can't agree with that, Newton was at least kicking goals for the Casey 1st's rather than the Casey reserves like Zomer had been.

I'm aware that Zomer did play in the ruck in some of the games he played in the 1st's but in the games that I saw where he was up forward he did very very little.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed that Zomer is gone from the club as it's his 2nd year on the rookie list if I'm not mistaken? Although the club could re-rookie him right?

Wouldn't have minded seeing him this week either to be honest, gives us something new to watch at least.
