Looks terrible! Why so dry!?

I'm no expert, but apparently the grass needs to get thirsty so the roots drive deep down to search for water (meshing it in with the soil properly). If it gets lots of drinks, the roots just push sideways and don't dig deep.

that looks as if it might have been either rolled or mowed. if its the later the the tops of the turf particularly hide its under growth and will be of a lighter shade. dont worry mate a good watering regime will darken it soon.

a question tho.

since this is a couch grass and it goes dormant during the winter, are we going to oversow a rye grass to color it a bit during the season and why didnt we use a fescue grass considering there is now a water recycling system for the whole of yarra park?

green keepers anyone?stig?

How do you know it is a couch? I was under the impression from posts here, and I think from previous club comm's, that the grass was the same as that used for the G (just applied differently - rolls v drop in slabs) and as such it would look as good as the G during winter?!

bc it was said it was a drought tolerant type of grass. it was also from the same supplier not neceassarily the same type of grass. stig might need to clarify.

Fiar call.. RFC_Official ?
yes but if you can get all the water you want why would you need drought tolerant grass?
Prabably because the recycling system doesn't get you "all the water you want" but does get you basic level all year round supply - thus it needs to be drought tolerant for summer and longer dry periods but not drought resistant (big diff I believe).

most likely. and you can add a rye or the type to green up the couch during winter.i have this stuff at home and its great.

Must be the off season, we are literally watch grass grow

Blade by blade commentary.. Stig might be able to organize a slo mo and or a time lapse of the blades of grass growing and we can go gaga debating about it here. Might get us through to mid jan and by then we are into praccys and back to dud delist world etc etc ;)

Legendary NFL quarterback Joe Namath was famously asked what's the difference between grass and AstroTurf? He answered " you can't smoke AstroTurf".

AstroTurf derived its name from the fact that artificial grass was first used on the playing surface of the Astrodome in Houston.

The Melbourne Cricket Club has a turf nursery at Dysarts Lane just south of Seymour where another 2 MCGs sit growing and are used for replacement during the AFL season.

Some grass facts to be considered while watching Punt Rd grass grow.
