Carlton will be haunted by choosing Gibbs over Selwood for the next decade. The next Aaron Fiora.

haha you beat me to the punch....a little highlights package of acts, of only a couple were remotely courageous prove nothing...i mean head butting a goal post isn't exactly tough, nor is chasing someone down from behind to tackle them

LOL

Is that video supposed to convince us he's not soft or that he is?

I agree, runinng back with the flight of the ball, but taps it forward and to the side instead of trying to mark it.

Not real tough 3rd/4th man in on Stevie Baker for a bit of push and shove. Whop dee doo.

While wrong, at least you don't posses nuts like peas

What's with your fascination with male genitalia Merv?

I suspect there might be more to this love fest for (the barely legal) Bryce Gibbs than just admiring his football skills. :o

It's not my video but the best I can find. There are many instances of him putting his head over the ball and being courageous but I don't have copies of the games.

The thread is also about his ability not just his softness or lack thereof and there are some examples of that ability in that video.

I think you missed Merv's point though JD .... what size stones do you have? You've had a pot shot above, why not go the whole hog and tell us whether Gibbs will be a dud or not, whether he will be more noted for his lack of courage than his courage?

No time for fencesitting jibes .......... show us what you have got.

For mine, Gibbs will be an upper echelon type player. Will definitely make the annual top 50 lists regularly and will push the top 10 in about 3 years. He will be predominantly an outside player due to his polished disposal and ability to read the play but will put his body on the line more often than not.

Over to you .....

No real fascination JD, although i am quite fascinated with mine, and attached for that matter.

Spot on.

Gutless snipes in meaningless threads abound everywhere.

"Worst #1 pick eveeeeeeeer", "gutless dud" etc etc are just a couple of the comments that people are prepared to make in random threads.

Yet when it comes to putting their knackers on the line ( there i go again JD  ) and making a statement they go missing.

Now that is gutless

Nick Dal Santo board.
Lol Thomas has a crack...he certainly wouldn't shirk a contest with steven milne
Gibbs wouldn't duck his head in a contest with Haselby or tentatively reach for the ball with one hand if Shaun McManus ran at him. Nine contested possessions against Sam Mitchell and blindsiding the poor man's Diesel when you put your head over the ball is the mark of a soft player.

Thomas would have thrown his boot out and kicked it to himself to mark it.

Collingwood supporters would then start a thread on BF crying about how Thomas was robbed of mark of the year.
Thomas ain't soft.

Gibbs will be a good player IMO. There's a bit of class about him, but so far he's behind a few players from the 06 draft.
Name them.

Only Selwood has done more and is a year older than Bryce.

Because You have to preform in your first year or else you'll never be rated highly?
Pettard was much better then gibbs before his injury, so chalk up another
Boak as well.

Leuenberger/Gumbleton will both be comfortably better then gibbs.

Opinion only. Petterd averaged just under 14 disposals in his 9 games playing mainly midfield IIRC. Gibbs averaged 13 disposals playing mainly in defence and given run with roles.

No he wasn't. He was better relative to the pick he was chosen at. From memory it was mid-30's

That's the problem when judging youngsters, you invariably look to the pick that they went at. If Gibbs gets 15 possessions and was no.1, he's average. If Pettard gets 15 possessions and was pick 40, he's excellent.

Try putting draft picks out of your mind and look at two young players and then compare and you'll find that Pettard was NOT "much better" than Gibbs.

Leuenberger/Gumbleton will both be comfortably better then gibbs.

WILL be? Seriously gotta love how everyone acts like nostradamus on this website.

Not "most likely" or "look better" but "WILL be" lol :D

Bryce is not the most courageous footballer going around. And most of the footy world would acknowledge that. :p

:thumbsd:, to your smart assed garth p.
Actually I doubt very much that 99% of AFL footballers and most of the footy media would acknowledge that as they have probably played with or against him or watched him a bit more than most opposition supporters.

Admit it, he is being judged on ONE solitary passage of play and nothing else he ever does again will make one shred of difference to most opposition supporters.

You certainly are a narrow minded lot.

Obviously Gibbs has potential. That's why he is a number one draft pick. The question is how well can Carlton develop that talent.

NO. I have actually noticed him squibbing it on more than one occasion. But he's young and can still redeem himself in my eyes.

Examples please.

And in that one passage of play, didn't he just slip and fall over?

If he goes for the hardball more often than not and has been seen in contested situations before, how on earth would someone like Milne scare him? That footage is so over exaggerated.

And in that one passage of play, didn't he just slip and fall over?
Sort of. He was trying to take the ball and miss Milne at the same time and went to ground in the process. The ball was the objective. Taking clean possession was the objective, not taking the ball and getting smashed for a 50/50 ballup ... or 20-80 ballup considering our ruck stocks at the time. :D

As i said , that's not the only time he has dogged it. and don't ask me for examples. There have been ample references to other instances in the past by other posters, on this and other forums.
