QAFL 2024 season

should just email all clubs that a review has taken place, let them know of decision and the reasons why.

One thing I don't like is the 2 point penalty for a ressies battler seeking opportunity. Penalise blokes who are playing regular 1s, but a bloke who is hammering away in the 2s at Aspley for example, deciding to go play at Mt Gravatt and play 1s. He should be a 2-3 pointer, not a 5-6 pointer.
Agreed! 2-3 years ago reserve grade games did not count towards points.
Now they seem to count. If you haven’t cracked the seniors you should be allowed to leave for opportunities. It lower level clubs too by getting a reserve grade player of a higher level as there are senior equivalent points attached.

Bailey Gordon
Zack Derksen
Joel Budarick
Lachlan Rhook

Jack Manly is VFL listed but can play as he’s a Grange Junior, local juniors don’t fall into the 4 player rule is my understand.
Ok a and I see they had 9 goals between 2 of them, no knock on Grange but fair leg up. Forgive my lack of knowledge on the process, do the players get to nominate where they want to play?

Clubs sign these players like a normal recruit, I think Grange have one other Southport player who played in Werribees grand final team last year so they are doing something right to get them playing for them is they don’t play VFL. My understanding is these players live on the Gold Coast.

Yep fair enough, so do Grange pay an agreed match payment when they play for them?

Have a look at this .. Ive listed each clubs official points tally for round 1 ( 50 points allowed)

1; Morningside -Grange and Palmy - 50
4; Surfers - 49
5; Noosa - 49
6; Aspley - 48
7; Redlands - 47
8; Labrador - 46
9; Broady- 42
10 M/Dore- 39
11; Mt Gravatt - 33
12; Sherwood- 32

So the top 3 with 50 , two won and Grange lost by less then a kick to Pbc.
Surfers, Aspley and Redland win
Sherwood ( 33) beat Mt Gravatt ( 32 )
Noosa with 49 points would be disappointed one would think
Broadbeach would be ok loosing to Aspley in a hard fought battle and having the knowledge 4 of their guns missed the game ..

When I was involved at QAFL level and we had a player coming back from NEAFL, it was the NEAFL club who paid the player. I think it was a set amount (similar to saying X amount per senior game and Y per reserves).

The qafl club pays and players are contracted like any other player.
2010 ,, Is that correct ,, I was of belief the AFL club pays and why woudnt they as the player is congtracted to that club,,, not tghe QAFL club ..
Like these players are on some $ 500 plus a game so how does a QAFL club budget and pay for this ?

Should there be an independent committee or board set up to rule on any requests outside the points cap.

That way it is like tribunal where requests are made and decisions handed down for all clubs to see.

It is obvious that the same clubs seem to be getting the green light on these points cap relief decisions handed out by Headquarters.

Probably time to take this from them so it’s a lot more transparent?
Great suggestion and tbh as it is the only true lever the aflq can pull it needs to be assessed and applied correctly. And now this is the 3rd year of Redlands / Aspley being in the qafl time to stop giving leg ups. First year I kind of understood, not the 3 rd year

💯. Noosa the outlier there

The qafl club only pays them when they play in the qafl and the contract is separate. Most id suggest get paid less at qafl level rather than VFL

Agree Miller .. have a look atr tghis example ,,, Robert Blood for Mt Gravatt this season is on 4 points .. Like you have to be joking .. check his playing history ,, 2023 played 2 games for Mt GRAVATT and the same for some team called the Redbacks ,,2022 he played 8 games for Mt Gravatt and 2021 played a few games for Broadbeach and suffered a very nasty concussion that saw him hospitalised for quite some time ...Im amazed hes still having a kick... but how the hell does he be counted as a 4 point player ,, ?????

That seems more like it ,, like you play seniors you get paid a agrred amount ,, and if u play the lower level because your not selected for the seniors one gets paid by the QAFL a lesser amount ,,, so tell me why does the AFL club have the authority tgo say a player thats not selected in their side will not be playing at the QAFL level... classic example was our Riley Bowman last season ,,his banning of playing for us at Southports instructions hurt us and cost him the Grogan Medal

Read this on another forum and thought how good it was👍

As the season is just underway it's a good time to remind everyone that all clubs are run by volunteers. Your committee will be first at the club Saturday morning, setting up, making sure the canteen is ready to serve, the bar is stocked, organizing people to man the canteen/bar. Then making sure everything is ready to go for all teams on/off the field. These same people will be last to leave, making sure the rooms are clean/tidy for juniors next day. These same volunteers(TRUE CHAMPIONS OF THE CLUB) have spent countless hours at the club in the off season. Please keep this in mind , even better when you turn up to enjoy your day at the local footy , at minimum let them know you are thankful and appreciative of their selflessness. Even better offer your assistance(maybe an hour behind the bar or canteen, offer to run water, time keep, umpire escort ect..)..

Agree - great reminder. If every coach imposed the AB's mantra of "sweep the rooms" to their playing groups this would be a massive time saver for a club volunteer. Unfortunately there is often a mindset of "the club owes the player". Never ever has this been true and the player(s) always owe the football club.

Thanks for that Stuyd.Any chance we could get junior numbers at each affiliated QAFL club? Noosa have approx’ 300, pretty sure that would be among the lowest if not the lowest hence why recruiting also important at this level.Across many things,it’s a numbers game and when you are up against clubs with double, triple and even quadruple in juniors numbers it’s a real juggle!
Junior development a priority,be nice to have a couple of relevant VFL listed players popping back in at times on 2 points also🤣

Hey everyone,
Thought I could put in my way too early QAFL award predictions.
Grogan - Rhys Mathieson
Rising Star - Owen Collins (if he plays enough)
Leading Goalkicker - Matt Hammelman
Premiers - RVP

Not bad I would have Tom Simpson from Labrador as a smokey for the Grogan. I was a bit surprised to see Collins nominated again as he's been apart of the senior ranks for a while now... how does the rising star eligibility work?

Why does Noosa get 51 points?
