An odd historical curio for Aspley:
From 1980 to 2002 (23 seasons), they either played in the Grand Final of their competition OR did not feature in the finals at all.
No Semi-Finals or Elimination Finals for them!
That might not seem so extraordinary - but we are talking about 14 Grand Finals (8 flags), plus 9 years of "No Finals At All". Nothing in between.
Well, I find it interesting.

That finbar delbridge will be a find for them for the next few years. They weren’t terrible against Labrador just needed adjust a few things

They seem to have lost a lot of players elsewhere and very young from what I saw in rd 1. Hard to replace all that

Boys I think Jordan Young is the only premiership player from 2023 playing at Aspley I might be wrong. I hope so but that is mind boggling from a Brisbane club. As we all know the FIFO thing is ridiculous! That’s only 3 years not even that ! Understand at the Goldy or sunny coast where it’s very transient and also from Webster leaving as coach but gee that’s big!

tell my why this is allowed ,,, ie just play a one off,,,its a huge advantage for the specific club on game day and it means someone gets plays reserves when they have been playing seniors ,,,just a load of crap ,,,should be outlawed

But of an overreaction Stuyd. Most players and clubs would think it’s a great promotion for the local game. Anyway how do you “outlaw” it? What if a player plays one game with the intent of more but gets injured?

Lagging behind .... unfortunately up here in QLD these one off players don't draw crowds to the game hence you cant call it a successful promotion for the club and the comp ,,, like how many additional spectators will go to the game because Markov is playing ,,,SFA hey.,,in Victoria its the opposite where crowds flock to the game and the club involved generates a lot of coin .thus its a good promotion . But in saying that if the player stars and plays a large part in helping a side win is that a fair thing ?? In QLD maybe if a club got a ex AFL champion like a Gary Ablett jnr for example then Im sure that would draw a crowd etc etc. Still, I disagree with it

Darcy Dalman from Sherwood is the next big thing for the QAFL. His defense on the backline for them is elite and his kicking is one of the best in the competition and don’t get me started about his hair. Should definitely get more seniors games especially over players like Will Fletcher

Given that the colts played in the GF last yr I think the development is fine

They had one year in the VFL in 2021… not sure what VFL concessions they were getting for the past 4 yrs

Be careful judging future success on Colts win/loss alone. Plenty before you have not converted that into senior success.

In hindsight the player points concessions were probably the only way to return the club to QAFL. Many said at the time it would be 4-5 years for you guys to come back to the pack. It seemed a long way away then but here we are.

Not sure Aspley will bottom out but welcome to the battles all QAFL clubs have.
