Posing this question from the QFA blog, does this 22 player point Mayne outfit beat any lower ladder sides in the QAFL?
Think they probably beat a few teams at this rate, a very good side and this competitionn proven to have a big disparity with the bottom 3 or 4 teams.

I think we could see Grange’s first win tomorrow. The Vultures haven’t looked like the side we saw in the opening three rounds and have been struggling the last few weeks. Looking at their team list, the outs of Ben Major and Blair Healy are massive losses and will really hurt them.

Missing from their Round 1 side:
Costa
James
Smart
Rowles
Petri
Major
Healy
James
Treadaway

Most of those guys are probably their “A-graders”, so it’s a very different looking side compared to the one that started the season.

I'd say none - massive difference in standard bn the 2 comps.
I think they would beat Mountie and the Magpies no problem. Grange be an even contest. Mayne have some serious top end talent with the full forward Doolan and the Quinn boys plus some old stages like Malan and Collins running around. They are also fielding the current team with 22 player points, it's a team full of Mayne and Everton juniors.

What would beating the bottom 2 achieve? I reckon the top Division 2 side comfortably beats the bottom 3 in Division 1. So what? All those clubs are on different journeys.

Mayne have done a great job but they’ve produced majority of their players through playing Division 1 opponents.

Maynes position is well earnt and deserved but be careful about gloating too much as we have all watched the top half of the QAFL comp catch and pass Aspley in the past 4-5 years. Mayne won’t be on top forever. Enjoy it whilst you can.

I tend to agree with what LaggingBehind is saying here.
Whilst it might be "fun" to contemplate how teams from different divisions would compete against each other, it ought never be consider in isolation. Unless something radical changes, there are no one-off games like this.
If you're being serious about it, it has to be viewed in a "whole season" scenario.
Hypothetically, with all due respect to both clubs, using them only as examples, if present-day Mayne was elevated to QAFL, they may not get to play Sherwood until Round 10. The course of their season up until that point changes the whole context of the argument.

Anyway, this is stuff everyone already knows. I just showed up to provide my tips. (I'm supposed to be working.)

nah disagree - Collings best years were in the tweenies, who knows how good Doolan or Quinn are as they haven't ventured outside this level of footy (not a criticism at all). No doubt they would be good but when this comp was super competitive with Noosa and Maroochydore in it they were seen as very good players, not extraordinary as they now are 10 years later! I think it's more a reflection on the standard of div 1 vs when Mayne was playing against Noosa, Maroochy, (a strong) Springwood.

I watched the magpies last week for a while - stayed with Maroochy for a half but don't have the cattle to sustain for a full game. They aren't a basket case
