I ask this genuinely not knowing the answer; is there a concern with the academies that it does well at lifting up the elite to get to the AFL but burns out a fair chunk of the hundreds of other kids who over train in their teenage years and are sick of footy by the end of school?Good point. Most are either getting drafted as evidence in recent years which is great.
However it is still interesting that all 4 GC colts teams are sitting 8th,9th,11th and 12th respectfully. Although am surprised at Palmy being down near the bottom. I will point out however that Wilson grange is down the bottom as well for the first time for many years in the colts.

What’s the standard of the colts division? I’ve never watched it. There is lot of good talent probably playing div1,2 seniors instead. Which is probably the better option I believe. Then head off for a crack at the qafl when you’re a bit older.Interesting point by Dorky here… further to that its equally interesting to note that there’s currently no Gold Coast based team in the top 7 on the Colts ladder with Broadbeach coming in 8th and the other 3 teams below that
Where’s all the good GC based 17-19 yr olds ?

Aspley most certainly with those 3Yeah, and Coorparoo, Grange and Sherwood appear to have a number of Colts/u17s playing Senior football as well. The challenge as always is that they need to hold onto these kids, as Grange and Sherwood (Coorparoo unknown at this point) have historically struggled to maintain the young talent they have, nor been able to replace it other than with more of their kids and being in a perennial rebuilding cycle.
The flow of talented juniors is gonna keep rolling for Maroochy too…. Sunshine Coast winning the Schoolboys state under 12s last weekendColts is one interesting factor to look at the future. As Miller says this can be embellished with a Colts first, unless seniors etc.
Of other minor significance is U17s and U15s behind that. I’m no Toucan here but I had a quick look at SEQ juniors and can compare to Colts:
(Colts; U17; U15)
Maroochy. 1st, 1st, 3rd
Coorparoo. 2nd; 3rd; 2nd
Sherwood. 3rd; 5th; 6th
Morningside 4th; 6th; 11th
Redlands. 5th; 10th (Div 2); 8th
Aspley. 6th; 11th; 5th
Noosa. 7th; 7th; 6th (Div 2)
Broadbeach 8th; 9th; 1st
Labrador. 9th; 2nd; 2nd (Div 2)
Wilston G. 10th; 4th; 10th
PBC. 11th; Last; 7th
Surfers. 12th; 2nd (Div 2), 1st (Div 2)
Mtg. Last; Last (Div 2), Last (Div 2)
I don’t know what it all means but it reads very well for a stock pile of juniors at Maroochydore and Coorparoo, most others a mixed bag in between, but horrendous for MtG considering their current senior woes.
Aspley most certainly with those 3
CatsUnsure on Aspley.
Looking at weekend teams, loose numbers:
Grange Seniors:
2 x u17 eligible
4 x Colts
Sherwood Seniors:
3 x u17
5 x Colts
+3 Colts in VFL
Aspley Seniors:
0 x u17
7 x Colts
Coorparoo Seniors:
2 x u17
5 x Colts
Go to the other end of the ladder though:
Redland Seniors:
0 x u17
5 x Colts
+ 1 Colt in the VFL
Impressively 14 of their own juniors too!
PBC Seniors:
0 x u17
0 x Colts
Morningside Seniors:
0 x u17
2 x Colts
+ 2 Colts in the VFL
That region is from Pine Rivers to Cooroy tbf - there's a lot of footy clubs in that area! The flow of talented juniors is gonna keep rolling for Maroochy too…. Sunshine Coast winning the Schoolboys state under 12s last weekend
The 19.5 rule is just nonsensical...Hi Miller, are you utilising the rule “must be 17 and not hit 20 by 30th June 2026 to be colts eligible? “

Unfortunately if the kid is at rep level they'll move to Coorparoo or Morningside to play div 1.10-12 Boys representatives at the state schoolboys carnival from the big 6 in
Brissy
Coorparoo 10
Morningside 8
Sherwood 6
Grange 3
Hornets 3
RVP 1
Is their an argument that the “second tier” clubs on the north side of Brissy (Sandgate, Kedron, Mayne and probably to a lesser degree Zillmere) are stronger than the second tier clubs on the Southside ? … or perhaps more of them? Is it simply Coorparoo and Morningside on the Southside then bust ? What’s the junior setup like out of Wynnum and Alex Hills and those places ? - Sherwood has a fair chunk of territory in the west so understandable to have strong representation
