Can someone explain to me how Logan City didn’t get transferred to the Div 2 South comp? They are way closer to the Gold Coast based clubs than the ones in Div 2 North

Was discussed in this thread late last year I believe. It was floated along with 1 or 2 other clubs but an apparent larger competition shake up across both north and south is apparently being discussed by those at HQ for 2027.

At the end of the day the Pirates are in a tough spot geographically not really close to the Gold Coast teams as there is only really Coomera that’s on the northern GC with Beenleigh dropping. Out so no matter which comp we are in people will complain about the trip.

For reference Redcliffe to the pirates is a shorter travel than the pirates to tweed so as the competition stands currently it’s not as clear cut as it may appear.

At the end of the day we’re lucky to receive such an upgrade in space and facility and hope those that travel to us this year enjoy their time on what is an absolute fantastic deck

You guys must be looking forward to the July 4 road trip

From a non-participant's point of view, I appreciate that the split of clubs between the North comp (12 clubs) and the South comp (8 clubs) provides no Byes.
If Logan City (Park Ridge) was forced to join the South comp, I would hope that another club would be included, in order to achieve some odd form of symmetry (10 clubs each).
And if that were to happen, it would provide everyone with plenty to argue about regarding the extra team to be sent South.

(Getting ahead of myself here - but does anyone actually have clear insight into what the proposed 2027 plan involves?)

I find this diagram helpful.

Here is a grid of the 2026 fixtures:
1772599355946.webp

The yellow highlight represents Home games.
The red font represents the opponents that each Club will only play once.
(Let me know if you find an error.)

Given the constraints involved, I reckon it is a relatively fair and reasonable draw overall.

I too am a non-participant as well, I was bored this morning and calculated each travel time from Yarabillba to the North v South opponents and South is on average over 25 mins less travel time (20) if you remove the outlier which is Gympie. Makes a lot more sense for the rebrand/new facilities that they got a fresh start in a new comp. Just lots of unnecessary travel time for everyone. I swear the people at AFLQ don’t have a clue!

This is top work 👌

I always find it humorous when at the start of each AFL season, the "analysts" determine who has the toughest draw.
(Spoiler: They're all tough.)

But let's take a look at QFA Div 2 North.
How about we look at how many times each Club will play a "2025 Top 6" side. Its not perfect - or necessarily relevant for 2026 - but its somewhere to start.

2026 Games against Clubs that finished Top 6 in 2025
Redcliffe: 9
Kenmore: 9
Alex Hills: 8
Kedron: 8
Yeronga: 9
Pine Rivers: 7
Logan City: 10
Jindalee: 8
Wynnum: 6
Gympie: 8
Zillmere: 7
Moorooka: 7

So, if it means anything, it could be argued that Logan City has the "toughest" draw, whilst Wynnum has the "easiest". We could also argue that Jindalee has been hit with a massive task for the first 3 Rounds, whilst Yeronga has a significant first 5 Rounds. None of that will mean too much once W's & L's are recorded.

Get a few Wins early - and everyone forgets the past. (Well, almost everyone.)

The plan raised was that the number of clubs in both comps would be equalized (10 each if it were to have happened in 2026) and it would be a pure geographical split. They didn't like the big lopsided numbers between North & South comps.

It was flagged with clubs only as a heads up, no discussion about odd numbers etc.

With the change of comp manager at AFLQ, who knows if that will proceed.

Be nothing new that Pirates get shafted from League Headquarters yet again. Common occurrence they just find different ways.

I See
Kedron v Mayne
Yeronga v Tweed Coast
Redcliffe v Hinterland
Alex Hills v Sandgate
Pine Rivers v Pac Pines

That’s all I can see so far

Anyone know the results from these games?
Redcliffe accounted for Hinterland comfortably, in both grades I believe. Got there for the second half of the Seniors and the highlight was seeing 10 x 1 point Redcliffe Junior/Youth players all 21 or under plus several U23 players. Good skills in windy conditions

Sounds like Redcliffe are getting set for a strong season. Any reason why there’s been all the talk of why not going to Division 1 yet all the praccie games are against Division 1 opponents? Hinterland, Moreton Bay & UQ

Not privvy to any division decisions but a new president, the Coach's second season and a young list still developing are probably solid reasons to create stability before going up. First premiership for 14 years, how does the saying go "One swallow does not a summer make".
As for practice matches, Councillors Cup is every year, been playing UQ for a few years now I think and maybe Hinterland asked Redcliffe 🤷‍♂️

PlayHQ says Redcliffe won by 75 points yesterday. Doing some good things down at Nathan Rd.
