Excited to say that I just successfully got Qooty to start on my W7 Laptop.

Qooty would not work for me due to the 64-bit OS.

I have been flailing away trying to recompile the entire Qooty into a 64-bit replacement application for the original. Its called QB64 and can be downloaded for free from the web.

I'll try to keep people up to date. This, if it works, will not only enable Qooty on W7 and Vista computers for those who can't get it happening, but in addition the builders of QB64 are expanding the functionality of this programming language, meaning there could be more things we can do with the game in the future.

Well some people with W7/Vista CAN run it, some can't. Its meant to be related to whether our W7/Vista systems are 32 or 64 bit, but even despite that, there are anomalies.

This program will work on basically any Windows platform. It would probably also work on a Windows-replicating simulator of another computer, eg a Mac. Uncertain.

But once this is successfully test-driven and fully understood, anyone with Windows should be able to use it.

Yay.

64-bit reduces your success likelihood unfortunately :(

But as I keep recompiling this new version we'll get closer to completely eradicating this travesty! :thumbsu:

With the current status (see the successes and failures above), one thing I CAN say, is that I should be able to assist with playing some one-off matches eg some of the scratch matches, going forward.

Thought it'd be good to post this here too, a very quick (and probably needs more explaining) guide to getting forum friendly stats.

EDIT: Mobbs, if your reading this, you'll notice that I have a "Southern Dragons Seconds" side. I use it so I can interchange players from the main squad to another. Is this how the simmer does it or is there a better way?

Easty, you are halfway there :)

If you are going to run an entire league, and need a place to put supplementary players:

Make your league and make your teams, fill them with 20 of each of the teams' lists.

Make a second league called, say, SFASUPPS, and make supplementary teams eg Dragons 2nds, and put the supps in there, just repeat some escalating text for empty slots, eg :
BP. DragonHearter
FB. NotStKildaNo
BP. FlagWouldBeNice
HBF. A
CHB. B
HBF. C

and so on.

Configure your main league but not your supps league.

So, yeah, right idea, but do it with a separate league

Mobbs, just a question/observation.

Centre Half Forward in the sim seems to be a pretty dead position. Almost all games from CHF's I've seen have been subdued at best.

I'd have thought given how CHF has been such a lucrative position throughout the AFL, with guys such as Carey, Nick Riewoldt, Dermie, etc. dominating, that the sim would look favourably on that?

Yeah it goes up and down with tweaks. Currently not much better than a HFF.
Essentially I just push and pull at the code every now and then. Every time I think I've got one position sorted another ends up out of wack. But its true, CHF deserves more than it gets, will try to take that into account.
