Can anyone explain the following please. Two years ago we played Sydney in Sydney, and in the ruck Bryan and Wood (I know it was Bryan and I think it was Wood because, if memory serves me well, Fraser was down after injuring himself playing for Victoria in the State of Origin, but I'll stand corrected if anyone has a better memory than me [might have been Brown??]), anyway, our two came up against Jolly and White and absolutely slaughtered them. Now, two years on, Jolly is ruckman of the year and Bryan is gone and some are still saying Wood may never make it. What happened?

You mean in 2008 where Wood and Bryan went up againt Everitt and Jolly?

Jolly had 20 touches, 10 marks, 17 hitouts
Bryan had 16 touches 7 marks 19hitouts
Everitt had 7 touches 2 marks 14 hitouts
Wood had 12 touches 9 marks, 7 hitouts.

I wouldn't call it slaughtering them.... though it would probably be bryan's best game.

I seem to remember some interesting tactics in the ruck that day.

Dont think it was ever a one on one type of thing

Bryan was always capable of coming into the side and putting in a huge performance.

His problem...dating way back to when he was at Carlton...has been stringing 2 games together.

He is lazy and slow and could get himself mentally up for a game simply due to the fact he is an angry guy. But was never capable of keeping that energy flowing 2 weeks in a row.

I'm actually suprised Hawthorn didn't take him as a backup ruck because he has that aggression they like. He's just too undersized to be a ruckman these days considering he also lacks agility.

Was a useful forward for us in the VFL and was good in the Prelim win against WC that year.

How the hell did Bryan get more hitouts than any other ruckman? And why didn't he play like this more often?

Bryan told hawthorn if he was drafted he would play and train but he was more interested in his punting career and thats entirely up to him

Bryan could be very very good when on song, maybe short but at his best very good. Its just his best never happened very often and usually only his return match back in the seniors

I still hold a grudge against him for his lazy effort in the final quarter of the 2007 Preliminary. he had the chance to put us in front when he literally dawdled to take a shot at goal in the open and was blind sided by a geelong speedster. :thumbsd::mad:
