Listening to SEN on the way home from work tonight and one of the topics got me thinking a little.

They were discussing Sheedy and likely replacements at the end of the year. The one name that kept coming up was Bombers. Basically they were saying his style of game was close to what Essendon's is and thus a good replacement for Sheeds at the end of the year if he was not to go on.

Daniher's name also came up. What I was thinking though is "Would Daniher be a good coach for Geelong to replace Bomber?"

Second time around coaches have done well over the years (if you get the right one). Blight, Matthews etc all had better success at their second clubs. He is very good in fronting the media and has the passion that many of us are after. Also has gotten Melbourne to the big one and a few prelims......with not the greatest of lists to deal with (though good all the same).

Soooooo now I open this thread up to the rest of you - thoughts?

Hmmm...perhaps. I would be open to it, plus he is an amusing character. Not sure if he would be able to do something with the team that Bomber couldn't...but I guess he has got Melb to a GF before and that experience might come in handy.

I was thinking about this after Footy Classified last week when he wouldn't commit to coaching Melbourne again next year. He has done a reasonable job at Melb considering their list. They have been regular finals players over his reign without the stars to really be succesful for him. I am biased I know but I think our list is much better than the Dees and I think Daniher is a better match day coach than Bomber is one area we really need an improvement. So I am open to the idea of Daniher coming to the Cattery next year.

He'd certainly be country enough. But does he have the ability to change the club's culture? That's the big issue, IMO.

Would rather him than Bomber. Would have won the 2000 GF if Essendon weren't almost invincible that year which is more than Bomber's done. Plus the Dees have an average list but still make 6th-8th every year (normally in the top 4 then fade out) where as our list is imo in the top 4 in the league yet we have only made the top 4 once under Bomber.

No deffinatley NOT!!!!! At this point in time Bomber has the team performing better then Daniher could........I like Neale but its a BIG NO from me i'm on the vote to keep Bomber list!!!!!!!:)

I think Bomber gets it a bit rough... In from '02 - '04 he got them playing decent footy. Inconsistent yes, but that's what you get from young players. In '05 we were bit stiff with injuries and stupid Nick Davis. Still a good effort to lose to the premiers by 3 points in a final...

Last year was disappointing we all know but they say they've fixed the problems and hopefully Bomber can get 'em playing consistently enough to get a top 4 spot. I don't think we can really judge the coach or the list until the end of the year.

Having said that, if they do let Bomber go, you'd be silly not to have a look at Daniher, that's if he's available...
