Question for St Kilda and Geelong supporters

I think Dermie said it best the other day.

A win in round one might be more important at this stage but in a couple of years time it won't be the round one victory that we'll be looking back on with fond memories.

Thats nice for players, but as a supporter whose team won a wiz cup two years ago, I don't look back at either with particularly fond memories.

So are you saying you would have rather have lost it and won one more match during the home and away rounds?

But who really remembers the Wizz Fizz cup GF winners ?
I know Collingwood lost last year, but I can't remember who they played [ possibly Port ??]

I'd prefer we win Rd1.

This poll doesn't really tell us much, does it. Unless all voters post a reply telling us what their intentions are we don't know how many Geelong supporters have opted for A Wizard cup win or a round 1 win. Same of course goes for Saints supporters.

I would prefer the Wizard Cup at this stage.

Perspective i guess. If you'd gone on and won a flag, i'm sure that would be different.

I look back on our 95 Ansett Cup win with many a fond memory as it was one of many tiny triumphs en route to our eventual 96 flag. 93 was the year it all clicked. 94 was another step forward. 95 we achieved something further again and it was nice considering our last premiership era was 20 years prior. And of course 96 it all paid off.

98's pre-season cup was a nice bonus, but that was soon negatively balanced out that September. But then 99 brought it back into a positive light.

Enjoy it Saints and Cats fans. Its all nice stuff you can look back on.

What Dermie said was right .
A personal example of this would be a player by the name of Jason Trainides of St Kilda . A half ok forward who would never get a game at the Kanga's went to St Kilda played well won the Cup in preseason done his knee career over. He won that title. the 1 solitary title stacked up **** loads better than a player like Robbie Flower & Trevor Barker

While I concede your point here, I must say that without a doubt Round 1 (and onwards) is surely preferred by most St Kilda fans.

With your teams history in Grand Finals, and the reaction of your supporters when you won the VFL Grand Final, I'd find it very hard to believe that your supporters would be anything but absolutely delighted.

Not saying that is a bad thing, we'll be the same.

I'm glad the game will be between two clubs that genuinely want to win.

I reckon we'll have a bigger crowd on saturday night than when the two teams meet in two weeks time.

And the emotion among the crowd will be far greater this weekend.

I do agree with you, the regular season is far more important. It could be the difference between making the finals or missing out.

My point is that we'll hardly reflect back on round 1 a few years down the track but if we are good enough to win on saturday it will be something great to look back on.

This thread is silly. IF a round one win eventually gets you into the finals... and you win the big one - then obviously a round one win is the most important. IF on the other hand a win in round 1 doesn't help you to make the finals, then winning the wizzer cup is more important. It's all mathematical and the answer wont be known till round 22. Re-post it then and I'll give you my answer.

Right now, I'd prefer the Wizard Cup. It would be us $200k in the bank, a shot in the arm for memberships and player confidence, plus it would (finally) maybe make the harshest critics sit up and take notice.
I would expect to win in Round 1 as well, though.
Prefer the Cup, but ask me at the end of the season if we miss the finals by half a game after losing in R1, and my responce may be different. ;) :D

I'm definitely passionate, soooooo...I guess you're calling me a liar Ripper......

(I usually only let the missus get away with that ;) )

We have a winner. A lazy 200 gorillas in your sky-rocket is always handy, plus the added membership bonus.
Dunno about making critics sit up and take notice though. Would that wierdo beardo Smith take notice? And importantly, who cares?

Ive been attending Geelong games regularly since 1989 and im still waiting to experience a senior premiership (day or night).

I know that home and away is the 'real stuff', but given that the Cats have no chance of winning the September Premiership I think a Wizard Cup win would be fantastic.

Interestingly, the Cats and Saints play in Round 1.

GO CATS!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy, Cats & Saints fans , bask in the moment.

That assumes every team goes out to win the wizard cup. All teams go out there to win, but that doesnt mean boo with regards to what condition your club is in and if they are serious about winning the competition. It doesn;t take much for a coach to ensure his team will lose.

I notice you currently reside in Armadale.

On the evidence of this effort, surely you're a Geelong boy by birth?

Born and bred in Melbourne, but fathers side of the family all from Geelong.

What exactly makes you think im from Geelong?

Mr Pivotal, did you even read the thread? The initial question and poll was whether St. Kilda and Geelong supporters would rather win the Wizard Cup GF or the round one fixture between the two sides.
