Hey guys

My 5 year old nephew is a huge collingwood fan. He lives in the USA but is coming down for 2 weeks and I told him if training was open to the public I'd take him down to try and get some autographs.

Cam you please help by telling me what time at training is the best to get autographs and where is the best place to wait to get them? Also to anyone who knows which players are the best in regards to autographs and which arnt I know not everyone likes to give out autographs and are the players generally good with photos with kids? His 2 fav players are Cloke and Pendles so Im praying they are good with autographs.

Thanks to anyone who can help and good luck for the rest of the season:)

The Pies train at Gosch's Paddock (corner of Punt Road and Swan St). They usually start at around 10 30 am on days that they are training. They generally train mornings a week, but the mornings will change depending on when they last played and when they next play. As a guide, the usually train the morning of the day before their next game (ie Friday morning if they play on a Sat), and the morning two days before that (ie Wed morning if playing on the following Sat).

Best would be to ring the club and confirm though.

If we are playing a Saturday game we train wednesday/Friday, if we play friday we train Tuesday/thursday, Sunday game is Thursday/Saturday

The last session of the week is generally the "open" one

You'll have no trouble getting the boys to sign them if you catch them it's just they don't hang around that long.

Best bet is to head down early and keep an eye on which players you want and then grab them when they are heading back to the westpac centre, I've found they all leave at different times and are more willing to take the time for signing something or a taking a photo with a kid on the way back rather than when they first get there.

As said above, you will have to wait until the conclusion of training, but they are normally pretty good with it all!

Thanks for all your help guys very much appreciated.

Will report back on Thursday to let you know how it all went.

Looking Forward to your Report and Get Pics

Start off by saying Collingwood are a very impressive and friendly bunch of blokes. The way you guys train is awesome always hitting targets and just very disciplined bunch.

Nephew had an absolute ball. Went there with his autograph book and got plenty of signatures. But when Pendles hid hero came he was a star. Spoke to him for a good 5 minutes and instead of signing his autograph book grabbed one of the footballs they used in training and wrote him a message and signed it. Was very grateful and made my nephews year. He hasn't put the ball down.

Thanks again for all your info that was provided.

Good luck for the rest of year

Cheers
Nick

Scott Pendlebury is a great bloke who does what you've described regularly for fans. Awesome and rare mix of insane football talent and goodblokeosity.

Great read nickh32, glad it worked out so well for you and the lad! :thumbsu:

Always good to hear such stories about players.

We really do have a wonderful bunch of young guys representing us, another thing to be proud of with our club

Im sure the property steward will be thrilled to hear him giving 150 odd dollar footys away :P

It beats my story in this area.

I've only ever asked one pies player for an autograph.

Peter McKenna, my boyhood idol. Kicking my socks around the bedroom, McKenna would mark everything in sight, dob them from all angles, he was unstoppable.

Then he actually came over to Hobart for a Vic v Tasmania game.

I was about ten, and so freakin nervous approaching this God for his autograph...it was to be my most cherished possession in the world.

Yeah, well he said no :o

I can only imagine this little kid's joy this morning.

I guess they bred kids tough in your day, huh? :)

Hehe Chad Cornes just said that after the 10th consecutive goal one of the Collingwood boys said to another Collingwood player how embarassing this was,
