hey, i want some advice...I have airline credit left over from not making the GF live last year.I have only one day left to book something or i lose the credit(big money)...funds have been low since so thats why I haven't booked stuff...(another story) anyway I didn't get to the unfurling of the flag game(more drama) SO...
don't have any time owing and can't take anytime off at all for ages theres not many places through tiger air you can go...Its a fair amount of money to lose...would I be absolutely bonkers if I booked hoping we make the granny??? Its a huge risk... what else happens in melbourne that weekend if Hawthorn doesn't make it?LOL , do i book it and pray or just forget that option? I have one day left to make a choice.Ordinarily, I would of gone to a home and away game in melbourne if the hawks weren't visiting Brissie but they are this year RD 10 to be exact, kind of hanging for that.We just don't have the time up all we can take is a long weekend in october(public hol QLD) which is grand final weekend ...we can chuck sickies for other weekends I guess but don't want to risk my job, not worth losing a job over to use up an airline credit.
Book for the GF

Should we be excited about the prospect of the MCG hosting the NRL Grand Final while ANZ Shithole is being renovated (to be converted into a rectangular stadium)? I know I am - would be able to see both Grand Finals without leaving Melbourne. :) State of Origin has already been a huge success down here, so why not the GF?

Why is there so much negativity around a bloke at hawthorn by the name of Jono orouke? The kid came here and it's his 2nd? Year at the hawks and people are already expecting him to be a gun because he was pick 2?

Just because he was pick 2 doesn't mean he will be a superstar, he also didn't choose to go that number.

Supporters need to remember he could hardly get on the track at gws and was in recovery at his first preseason with us. He just finished he first preseason so give him a chance.

Also don't forget we only gave up pick 19 (Blaine boekhorst) and 40 and received orouke and 43. So stay calm he is showing signs of becoming a good player and is free a lot of the time just needs to become louder and more confident when on the field and that comes with experience

I just ignore all his time at GWS and that they picked him up with pick 2.

If you just pretend we drafted him 2014 with pick 19 then his progress seems quite decent and on par or better of those also taken by us that year and a lot of the players taken around that range of the draft too.

Exactly. If we'd taken him at 19 as a 21 yr old 'mature age' recruit then everyone would be happy enough. That's effectively what we did so that's how we should look at it.

Would we be happy enough though? Look at other "high" draft picks we have had. Hartung has the pace and endurance and is progressing very well. Howe has shown poise and promise and will get better with experience and pre seasons. My point is they have shown something, I'm yet to see it with O'Rourke. Im not here to say hes not good enough or beat him down, i very much hope he makes it, i came on here looking for some views on how he is going because im yet to see much at all. What kind of player is he? He showed some glimpses of run and carry but not as much as i thought he might. I thought the St Kilda game would be a great opportunity for him but he didnt make the team.
Does anyone know who he was likened to when he was drafted? What are our hopes for the player he will become? From what i have seen he doesnt have the best ball use or decision making in picking a target.
I think and hope much like Sicily he will soon have a breakout game and gain the confidence to know he belongs.

I don't reckon he has a 'breakout' game/skill. I think he'll be a hard-working, hard-running workhorse who lives in the 20-25 possession world whilst keeping his opponent to -5 possessions than they normally get. Might be good for a goal every now & again, perhaps as a HFF during midfield rotations.

I reckon, when he's up & running, his absence (when injured etc.) will be noticed more than his presence.

*We're discussing the same on the post-game thread at the moment & he's been likened to a young Shiels.

One of your better posts :p Hoping it's a sign also :thumbsu: :D

Grand final week in Melbourne is awesome even if your team isn't playing but especially if it is. You won't regret it. I have Booked early the lay four years and have not regretted it.

I have a few mates from Perth who pretty much do the same thing. They usually stay for the Peter Crimmins Medal as well, so they're here for the best part of two weeks if we make the GF.

I always thought :drunk: meant crazy!
Now I find out :drunk: means drunk!

I must be :drunk:, or maybe I'm just :drunk:

Anyhow, carry on!

You're not the only one, the contexts I see it used in more often indicate craziness than drunkeness. I've used it for craziness too (would never post drunk ;) )

With Roughy out, do you think Shem would have got a game this year as a monster forward?

Big call I know, but I did see something in his development and strength that makes me think he could have made it at AFL level.

I believe our hopes of winning 4 in a row rest heavily on McEvoys ability to push forward and kick 2-3 goals a game for the rest of the year now that Rough is out. With no big, strong marking options forward I think McEvoys has to be the man now. Thoughts?

If that's what they rest on then it won't happen.

And whys that? He's our best overhead mark, kicks well and has the fitness to go forward.
No he's not. Sicily is. Even if McEvoy is the best contested mark (it's an objected thing), he's not that far ahead of Sicily, Stratton and Frawley amongst others. He's a decent set shot for goal, but so are most of the forwards.

He's far too slow to be a forward come ruck. He needs to be a ruck who rests forward, but his tap work at the moment is really poor and his second efforts are even worse. He's the main (but not the only) reason why the midfield are getting beaten quite badly during some games.

Unfortunately for him, he can't play NicNat every week.

We have 3 players currently averaging 2-3 goals a game. Cyril (2.22), Breust (2.30) and Gunston (2.50). McEvoy even playing all his time just as a forward would be lucky to keep pace with that lot.

And consider that Hale in his time with us never averaged more than a goal a game playing the ruck/forward combo. And in his final years at North where they played him primarily as a forward he never averaged over 2 goals.

2-3 goals in a game is achievable for him. 2-3 goals in every game for the rest of the season is not going to happen.

The best we can realistically hope for is he averages close to a goal a game and helps contribute to others scoring by being a presence up forward who can bring the ball to ground and take a big defender away from Gunston.
