So, if we had won one more game in 2023 (which we should have), you'd be backing Nicks in?

Seems pretty arbitrary . . .
No premiership coach missed the finals for their 1st 5 seasons. What makes you think Nicks would be the 1st?

I have seen enough of Nicks to know he isn't smart enough to be an AFL head coach. We have had to bring in Davis because the club finally worked this out too.

if not for one umpiring decision, Nicks would have made finals in his first 4 years. It wouldn't have made him any more likly to win a flag than he currently is.

i don't think he's the guy to get our next premiership. All I am saying is that I hope that I'm wrong. Like it apoears is not an uncommon outcome.

I'm perfectly happy for you to believe differently. But are you really hoping that you are right?

If you had been reading all my recent posts, you would have read that I want to play finals, but also don't want Nicks extended. I'm sick of missing finals!

For the sake of the AFC this coming season is better. Let's give Nickys a few weeks grace and hope he does well.

What do you mean by this?
That we shouldn’t be critical early in the season for we start poorly because it would hurt the rest of season?

If we get finals, I don't think there will be any rush to cut Nicks.

And we ABSOLUTELY should make finals. I don't particularly rate Nicks, and even saying that means I probably hold him in higher regard than most around here. But if we don't make finals, he can't continue. The talent on the list should be finals bound.

A well run ruthless Club would sack Nicks even if we make Finals, if there was a lack of improvement/progression in our younger players and a suitable candidate wanted to come to Adelaide.

We have a very decent draw in 2025 and TT,Fog, Rankine and Rachele really need to take their game to another level.

In a perfect world, we could get the best of both worlds, make Finals and get a new coach that can take us to a flag.
It would certainly be a ruthless club that did that. But I'm not sure you could call it well-run to sack a coach for making the 8.

I actually love the idea of Soligo on the wing.

I know he's very capable as an inside mid but it's just so squeezy in there. Impossible to fit everyone in. Someone needs to get squeezed out and impact from outside.

Keays has done it, becoming that high half forward.

The beauty of Soligo is that he can be multi-faceted. He can win a hard ball when needed but also work into space. Be an inside/outside player. Dual threat. Sometimes your outside receivers get lost in tough, scrappy games but I don't think he will.
Plus he can (and does) kick goals.

Word from players who have recently exited the club say Nicks is just too nice. That new breed of coach who is all about getting your arms around the players. No matter what.

One player said he would play a bad game or make a big mistake and would expect a bake from the coach. They never came. Leaving the prayer confused.

This all makes complete sense given his propensity to select underperforming players. Especially the older ones. Doesn’t want to upset the apple cart.

This is not a premiership coach. we have an assistant-calibre coach leading one of the biggest clubs in the land.

Was thinking about this today coincidentally. Have we essentially employed Murray Davis as the "bad cop" then? Allows Nicks to maintain good relationship as we build from the ground up, and Davis holds everyone accountable?

Good coaches are able to fulfill both roles obviously. But given we've extended Nicks and there's nothing we can do about it, I'm hoping Murray the Enforcer adds something.

If the umpiring decision was overturned we would have been leading by 4pts with 1.15 mins remaining in the last quarter, no guarantee would have won the game.

We got into that position late in the season because Nicks blew three 3/4 time leads vs the Pies, Giants and Lions in previous weeks to the Sydney game. All these three teams played Finals.

We'd have won that game.

But everything you said was 100% spot on

I have never questioned your postings and I doubt that I ever will.

There are however some other Bigfooty Mods ( and I am not referring to WW19) who imho constantly post negative comments. I have the impression that one of the Mods is a closet Pear supporter who takes every opportunity to troll genuine Crows supporters.

Just my impression.

My comment was in response to a statement that "No premiership coach missed the finals for their 1st 5 seasons" and noting that this rule wouldn't have applied to Nicks, if not for that decision.

Yes, we may not have won if that decision was called correctly. But given that Sydney had scored a solitary point for the last quarter and only 2 goals 3 for the second half, I'm relatively comfortable that we could have held them for goalless the last 75 seconds.

There is no mod on this board that does this?
You’re either referring to Scorpus or Drugs Are Bad Mackay? and neither of them is anything other than a crows fan.
Sure they might be a bit negative but when the team is as bad as they have been that’s perfectly reasonable.
They are some of the more valuable posters on the board.

Now, now..... there's no need to be a kiss ass

Nah I’m genuine, think they are both quality posters on here.

Both are very good posters when it comes to footy stuff. The ‘other team’ supporter stuff is a pretty lazy accusation. Interesting that Jack thinks Drugs is a Port supporter while Vader thinks he’s a Pies fan.

It's hard to be positive all the time when you miss finals for 7 years.

Being critical of the club doesn't make you a Port supporter!

Means you probably like Roo though...

We have great Adelaide Board moderators & confident none of them has gone tribey..

I think he will become our best clearance winner pretty soon.

That's also where wing is slowly going, as it has become a way to squeeze in an extra inside midfielder as much as it is going for that classical outside mid.

Though, I don't think Adelaide's build will allow that for Soglio. We kinda need him being our main clearance winner moving forward. However, it might be a direction we look in for someone like Curtin, Rankine/Rachele (seeing we'd need one to be a permanent forward) or Draper.
