Laird himself has said the 666 rule basically ruined him in that position. He was talking about it last year at a function. Really interesting. He certainly doesn’t want to play there. And it’s showing.Remember Laird was AA prior to 666. Played the spare 7th which even Brent Reilly looked good in for half of that one season. Not sure that role is as relevant now.
I think hes still a metres gained player, but then ive never really given much credence to that stat. I do think he's slowing down a touch for sure but think he's still got enough in him to play a decent role at half back. More than happy for him not to be in the side mind you as I rate Bond.Laird was an AA level defender. He is nowhere near that level now. Do you see the weaknesses I mentioned as being there?

It's a good point. I seem to recall Lairds form nose dived after the change.Remember Laird was AA prior to 666. Played the spare 7th which even Brent Reilly looked good in for half of that one season. Not sure that role is as relevant now.
It did and it’s why he was moved to the middle plus our midfield suckedIt's a good point. I seem to recall Lairds form nose dived after the change.
Has our club just entirely forgotten its own failures? Surely not.It did and it’s why he was moved to the middle plus our midfield sucked
Yeah, I'm certainly a bit confused with this talk of not having any KPF depth when we have 3 quality ones and a very promising 2nd year player at 197cm (Curtin). Toby Murray also developing nicely and obviously just got in Welsh. How many more KPFs do people want?! Most sides will be lucky to field 2 quality ones and have pretty thin depth behind that.Yeah but not many teams have the luxury of fielding a walks, a Curtin, a RT and a Fogarty all at once, I'd say even none. If one of them goes down then we can cover as you don't really need 4 talls....
3 quality, ones about to retire.... Curtin may not yet be a KPF (imo he wont), and Murray/Welsh are a way offYeah, I'm certainly a bit confused with this talk of not having any KPF depth when we have 3 quality ones and a very promising 2nd year player at 197cm (Curtin). That's more than most clubs in the comp and Murray isn't a mile off, would certainly be able to play AFL footy this year if he absolutely had to.3 quality, ones about to retire.... Curtin may not yet be a KPF (imo he wont), and Murray/Welsh are a way off
I don't think it's possible to name an R1 team that includes Dowling without being pretty silly with who you leave out.Should be in our team, Nix is a dunce. Young talent here have to jump thru so many hoops it ain't funny. Unless your a top 10 pick and even then......
Laird, not silly, smart.I don't think it's possible to name an R1 team that includes Dowling without being pretty silly with who you leave out.
How could you disagree with that?St Kilda looking very against the pears atm.

You forget that we can swing players around though. For instance we have 3 starting talls - Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Tex, with Curtin as cover. Could also move Murray or Worrell forward as marking options as we have cover for KPD’s. Then there is also the Burgess option which I don’t think is as bad as most say. Welsh and Toby will develop also. That front half has been a strong point for a while, but it does look a bit thin on the ground now. Luckily most of them are young, but we'll need to keep an eye on that.
Lets not let it spiral like we have with the ruck situation.

Naughton is incredibly overrated. Wouldn’t hear about him if he played for a non- VIC clubThat's more than most clubs in the comp and Murray isn't a mile off, would certainly be able to play AFL footy this year if he absolutely had to.
Brisbane - lost Daniher, so now it'll be Hipwood, Morris and Day
Collingwood - Mihocek, Membrey, McStay
Carlton - Curnow, McKay and then it really thins out
GWS - Hogan, Cadman and then thins out
Bulldogs - Darcy, Naughton, JUH (if he plays) - strongest trio if they actually all play
Hawks - Chol, Gunston... anyone else?
Geelong - Cameron, Neale and not much else
Port - Luko, Marshall (injured), Georgiades
Sydney - McCartin (only being tried forward now as they have no one else), Amartey
Suns - King, Walter, Himmelberg
I could go on, but I think you get the point.

3 starting smalls - Rachele, ANB, Keays with Pedlar as the main cover. Could also move Rankine and Draper forward. Taylor and Dowling both handy infront of goal, and we invested a bit of Cook also. Peatling up forward as part of the rotations is an option. Milera could also be a handy FP. I don’t think it’s anything to stress over tbh.
