I personally think the hold up on making a decision is due to the following:
Potentially the AFL and clubs are now turning the heat on the broadcast partners to provide a sizeable contribution to the clubs and AFL.
As it stands the only real winners are, Fox footy, Chanel 7 and Kayo.
The AFL will be negotiating with them as they have now captured 100% of the market as apposed to a smaller percentage during the regular season.
It makes absolute sense that they give back as ratings will be trough the roof.

The extension of this would also be the cost of doing business for the broadcasters could potentially be less due to less travel, accomodation all broadcasts could be done remotely only the camera crew need to be on site.
