I wonder what's up with Bice that he had to be removed from emergencies (and not named in the VFL)?

Looking at that bench, anything other than Buller as sub would be a shock.

Unless...
Maybe just needs another preseason.
His fitness, ability to play at a high level, has question marks.
Not knocking the guy. One of our best kicks.
I think he just needs managing.
Another preseason will unlock his potential.

not sure what Hamling offers over Florent apart from height. Puzzzling selection. Glad top see Buller get another run ( not sub please)

Completely different players, Hamling plays tall (preferably KPD) Florent is and outside runner (HBF or Wing).

Hamling has to come in this week as Freo have Tracey, Amiss and Voss as three tall forwards then one of Darcy or Jackson resting there.

I’ll go there and say I like tall players as sub, for a few reasons.

1. More, not less run

You get you more run overall, as you have one extra runner for most / all of the game (depending on whether the sub replaces another tall or a small).

The extra run through the game also means we are better able to rest our most valuable runners through more rotations (as opposed to having an extra runner at the end of the game, whose freshness is restricted to themselves).

2. More impact

A tall can play with high intensity (and also by the by run) for the 1.0-1.5 quarters they generally play as sub, enabling high impact plays (e.g. extra energy for contested marking, crashing packs, closing gaps to spoil, kicking a long bomb for goal, etc).

Having a tall as sub as means the coach can identify a tactical sub opportunity at half time for a starting tall, and tell the starting tall to go all out at the start of the third, knowing they don’t need to leave anything in the tank.

3. Retain structure

Losing a tall to injury hurts structure if you have a runner on the bench (they can’t play tall).

Conversely, if you lose a small to injury and have a tall as sub, they can still somewhat help with run and support rotations for more spritely players.

Having a tall as sub also means that if a starting tall is out of sorts (which let’s face it, is more common than a runner), you can make a tactical replacement and retain the structure.

Hamling allows Blakey to run free

Would you rather Florent kicking it out from the back or would you rather Blakey

Would you rather Hamling being the lockdown defender or would you rather Blakey?

In the Rd 2 game JJ went to Serong;

Jordan had more disposals than Serong, double the clearances and more I50s and rebound 50s.
Indeed Serong had fewer clearances than in any other game this season. He also only registered 12 effective disposals compared to his average of 19.
Rare for a tagger, the coaches rated him =2nd best on ground.

Going into last week Ed Richards was 4th in the coaches votes.JJ shut him down.
Currently Serong is 4th.

Personally I'm backing James to go to Serong and get the job done.
I don't think it's a question of could Jordon successfully do the job on Serong or Clark. I'm confident he could do the job on either. It's more a question of who needs shutting down more if you want to limit Freo's damage. For me that is definitely Clark.

It’s played like a wet track for a month, it’s hardly going to be that dry.

Prepare for next year and use the last games to get a form of a gameplan that’s sustainable and can we stop playing blokes that should be delisted at seasons end.
Look the fact is Francis and Hamling have been very valuable in the times we had no forward line and no backs. The reality is they are good depth.

But this game is about who is on the park now. Errol, Paps, Millsie, McBox, Amartey Party all back in for this we at least have a chance. We beat them without our top players. But they are far better now. But how much is that Flat Track Bullies? They tend to win at home. They have been at home for three weeks. They have won only one game away and that was against Suns.

Agree but they also randomly have a good record at the SCG

I am really interested to see how the Amartey/Buller combo will go. It will make it very difficult for the defense.

Buller is really clever at bringing the ball to ground. I am hoping Amartey leads and gets plenty. If he gets chances at goal he won't **** up tomorrow. I am bit excited. I think it will be a great game.

Must be injured because he didn't play in the reserves today
