Johnson's saving grace is how poorly St Kilda have been moving the ball into the F50. They love the long bomb.

Hopefully Johno hasn't forgot how to read the play. Should challenge Ryan as our leading interceptor for the game.

I may be in the minority but I think Johno will go ok with the week off and not having to ruck, which was crazy.

While I would prefer one of the young ones he won't disgrace himself.

Why not wait until after the game before piling the crap on Johnno and Danyle. They might make the best list and help the youngsters on the right path.
Talk about a lynch mob.
Salim. You have been a voice of reason across all threads in the past week. I fully agree with you and especially thank you for your hard work preaching the truth on the Lyon saga

First post so here goes.
D Pearce and C Sutcliffe make poor decisions and have poor disposal at times that costs us turnovers . They are the key contributors to our losses.
Last year we played them early and they were costly with turnovers so we dropped them and started winning.
This year they have good pre seasons so they get another go in round 1
Guess what , round 1 v port Adelaide, D Pearce has 5 kicks and Sutcliffe 6 kicks and I reckon half of them were to port.
Then we drop them and started winning.
They should never play again.
And M Johnson is just as poor with hitting targets as those two.
So if any of those three play we are just one step closer to a loss.

Few would disagree with this but who do you bring in? We already have 13(?) Under 50 games.

Not alotn of experienced players out there, even if they won't be around next year.

Brad Hill - Injured / suspended
Harley Bennell - Injured
Nathan Wilson - Injured
Michael Walters - Injured
Griffen Logue - Injured
Matt Taberner - Injures

All would be in our best 22 if they were availavle leaving Pearce / Sutcluffe at Peel.

Johnson is a bit of a head scratcher but I'm ok with him in the side til after the bye.

Not sure who is less and fit but we seem to recruit plenty of midfielders, so we could always use Fyfe and / or Mundy in the spine as key position roles and bring in anyone who has some pace and decent skills for disposal efficiency.
Put the acid on s Hill, Neale, Langdon to lead brayshaw , Cerra, banfield and whoever else we have to bring in.
Use Mundy and Fyfe in key roles one back and one forward to give us some
Experience and leadership front and back

The guy who got dropped after 1 game.

Part of the reason we have so many inexperienced players is because we keep dropping them after 1 game.

That all sounds great, but if we had such players they'd already be playing.

Also Saints are one of the best (if not the best) contested ball side in the comp. We absolutely need Fyfe in the guts this week.

We simply don't have cattle at the moment for DP (unless it is Sherro who is not favoured here either). You can make a reasonable case for 2-3 guys instead of Johnson but I suspect he might do some rucking.

Or maybe he just isn't that good.

Cerra, Brayshaw, Banfield, Crowden even Duman have been given a run of games. Then you can look back at guys like Weller, A.Pearce, Sutcliffe (yes, he was decent during our 2012-14 era) and Blakely.

If you are good enough you will play.

Im not sure what Sutcliffe has to do with anything as he is not playing. Rotating experienced players into a team where exactly half those selected still has less than four years experienced on an afl list makes sense in terms of injury management. Over exposing kids not ready for afl can actually harm their progression towards becoming decent afl players. Look at Gold Coast as a prime example.

Danyle's far from perfect, but easily the best performed player over the last month at Peel level. Johnson's disposal is still significantly better than you are making out and he at least adds experience to a very young backline. Selecting Ethan Hughes could potentially harm his development. Seriously, if a young player is down on confidence from one game and you keep selecting him than his confidence level is only going to sink lower with another bad game. Self belief is a key component in a young player making the transition to a regular afl performer and nothing is gained by playing young players where there is a risk of damaging their own confidence in playing at afl level. Playing one bad game is one thing, but if you keep getting selected and play a string of terrible games long term confidence can be severely damaged.

It is also way over simplistic to say we suddenly started winning because we dropped those players to a massive degree. We've beaten teams we would have been favoured to beat if Johnson and D.Pearce where in the team (again a very strange reference to Sutcliffe) and lost to teams we would have been favoured to lose to if they had been in the team or not.

EDIT: Stephen Hill is out so Nyhuis is playing anyway.
Double edit: Johnson terrific tonight. D.Pearce pretty good as well.

Plus it’s the Saints. If we don’t win by 40+ we ain’t fair dinkum.
This should honestly be an absolute slaughtering. 110-60 minimum type score.

I’ve watched a couple of Saints games this year and I’d say it was the worse I’ve seen of any team for sometime. Including our massive losses last year.

They have been woeful.

Not with our current forward line. Need to be realistic. I would be happy just to take the win. Even if its a 20-30 point win.
lol I called it, a 30 point win.
