I wonder how many people will be voting against Joe on December 18 for the soul reason of him being Jewish?

Ive spoken to at least 3 people who cannot give a factual answer as to why they dislike him, they just turn and squirm whenever his name is mentioned and say they just cannot stand the 'look' of him. In the general public, there are people refer to him as a jewish "so and so" and make fun of his religious beliefs without knowing anything about him as a person, automatically labeling him as somebody who they'd rather not be assosiated with. A lot of it is in fun, but there are plenty of people that 'hate' him for that reason alone.

I'm not saying that anyone on these boards is racist and I'm not saying that everyone against Joe is racist, just pointing out the fact that of the few thousand who would be against him, there are at least a few who are totally against his religion and not him as a person, which isnt exactly fair.

Its made much more complicated because Gutnick is a very orthodox, very conservative Jew.

Which can make it hard for Gentiles to relate to the guy at times.

I don't know Gutnick, or the politics at the Dees at the moment to really be able to comment, but it seems that the mere fact that Gutnick is Jewish is not the problem, its Gutnicks particular flavour of Judaism that is a problem for some people.

cheers

yes it is BSA and yes i know of people who will not vote for him becuase he puts his faith before his football. IMHO.....i can see how this is a conflict. IF it interferes with his job, well then he has to make the decision.

Look i am not voting for him for the simple fact that i dont like the way the man does his job....and i think there are people around that would run a footy club better than he can. He wants a finger in every pie so to speak and that is not how a president runs a football club.

But yea there will be people out there that will not vote for him because he is jewish and i piy those narrow-minded people

I am not voting against him because he is Jewish, I am voting against him because of the way he runs the Club.
In a way I admire his stand on Religion. I would not miss a Grand Final for anything, yet he was able to stick to his beliefs and not attend.
In saying that, it does interfere in someway. A few years back Melbourne was encouraged not to draft Poyas becuase he was Jewish and would be playing on Friday/Saturday's, something of which Joe could not stand for if he was President.

In conclusion, I would hope people would look deeper into this important issue than just basing it on religion.

I would've thought a great reason to not vote for him would be because he's a ****-stirrer. He resigns, and now wants to be back? What if you vote him in, and he decides after a year that he doesn't like his new team? Does he resign and nominate again?

EXACTLY.
He has not been able to work with many previous boards, the same could happen again.

i know i've wondered too but using racism as an excuse is a cop out. Although i must admit i feel Joe is unfit to be the president of a football club if his religion takes priority over football. Fine i realise they are the rules in the religion game but not in this game. Football comes first and if it can't for Joe he should be the president of the church instead!

Um.

I think Szondy is Jewish too.

Are you sure?

If he is, it would be a bit like David Smorgon, the Dogs President. Jewish, but not orthodox, meaning not going to a synagogue. I know that is a very brief summary which is probably not even right. All I know is there are certain extremes to the Jewish religion and Smorgon/Szondy and Gutnick would be at the opposite ends.Sorry my religion knowledge is not very extreme!

I am not voting against him because he is jewish either, I don't like the way he runs the club.

He tends to talk a whole lot of crap, never seems to shutup and makes stupid decisions (sacking Schwab, should have had another chance.) Plus, I just don't like the guy at all. He just annoys me, and I believe the club will be better off without him.

Well i dont know if he is Jewish or not but as you said he is not Orthodox. Saying that being a sacular Jew doesn't mean you dont go to synagogue... lol sometimes it cracks me up to see how little people know.... (no offence or anything!).

Going back to the topic now.........
Being Jewish and going to a Jewish school and being very involved in the Jewish community i find racism a very painful issue. Being so involved has given me a chance to meet Joe on several occasions, and to understand where he is coming from.
Racism was slowly spreading at Melbourne when Joe's religion started to come in the way of his footy, that was a real kick in the guts for him because you just cannot make him choose between his religion and his footy... it isn't fair!
Saying that, i understand why people would get upset over Joe's life decision to put his religion before his business and why they would not find him suitable to be a president of a footy club.
Meeting Joe has given me the chance to really understand him and see his passion for Melbourne and his love for the club, he even calls the players and staff his family!
I wish no one put his religion against him, but so many people do. I have heard many people both on and off these boards call him a dirty Jew etc... and its those people who make those comments who are stopping us from stepping away and moving on to a better way.

yeah true,
but my vote has gone down with Team Vision! (my sister voted)

whose ticket is that?? I can never remember whose is whose! I voted for the Szondy one though, but I forgot which one his is.

A lot of people say they're not racist and yet they say that his being Jewish stops him from running the club properly. There is not the slightest evidence that this is the case. People made a mountain out of a molehill over the Ezra Poyas situation but I'll have Brad Green and Paul Wheatley ahead of Poyas any time. That story was spread by a racist who had an interest in getting rid of Joe. If you believe in the theory that by being an orthodox Jew it stops Joe from doing his job then you have swallowed racist propaganda - even if you're not racist yourself.

As for being a dictator - look at the way Szondy has behaved during the election period. He's the real dictator here.

As DEES_RULE said, it is a life choice, and if it came down to a decision between my God and footy, God would win hands down. Sorry if you're offended by that or whatever, but its just the way I feel.

I'd like to hear Bananabender's support for his statement. If Szondy was a dictator, though, I'd imagine Melbourne First would have mentioned it somewhere already.

I'm still not sure which way I'm going in this election, and time is running out!

So you don't like a President who stands up for his club??
That's the only time he's spoken out to the presss, or for David Schwartz, salary cap, or when some of his "loyal" ex board members kept stabbing him in the back when he was overseas:mad:

You said Schwab should have been given a 2nd chance, do you know the real reason why he was sacked....it was not ONLY FOR the salary cap indiscretions...there was a more serious matter, far more serious. I have to leave it at that! If you ask around, people in the know will tell you.!

Why does Joe annoy you...is it because you like a President to be seen and not heard? Where has that got us in the past? Nowhere!!

Cheers:rolleyes:

Ex Board members can verify that too Dees Rule, there was racial slurs against his by some of his ex-board members.
I myself have heard and seen this too. Absolute truth...I swear to it!!

Nice post Dees Rule.

Unfortunately some of the members of this BB have never had the chance to meet Joe personally.
He is not a dictator. Its just rubbish.
There is an agenda to get rid of him...this is so true, but some fail to believe it.:(

Theonly fault I have with him, is that he is a little naive footy wise sometimes, but he is learning and by golly, the man has changed so many things at the footy club...all for the better...and more importantly....he is honest and he wants to stand up for his club, irrespective of what the afl think and he wants to club to stand alone and be a "family" type club, not a social club, exclusive to just Collins St. type people who have always run the MFC.

I just wish you guys would make the effort and learn about Joe.

Vote for Joe, mate. You'll regret it if you don't.

Joe is the only one who can provide us with the financial stability needed to strive in this competition. He is the only one who can provide the leadership needed to run the club successfully and stand up to the AFL when need be. He will not lead the club into another merger and will fight for us as a stand alone club in the future.

On the other hand, the lies that Team Vision are circulating are unbelievable. They avoid the crucial issues and continue to label Joe as a dictator because they are uneasy about his style of leadership.

There's really only one smart choice - vote Joe.

What, so I do not like Joe Gutnick at all??

So ****ing what?? I just hate the guy, I believe he gives the club a totally bad image, and I really don't like how he runs the club.

It seems u cannot accept that. So get stuffed, I did not vote for Joe, case closed. I don't care what you Joe lovers have to say about it, and I don't care if my arguements don't stand up to yours!! He didn't get my vote, and never will.

Then why is the Club in a worse financial position now than it was five years ago?
Vote Team Vision.
