Rain, hail, thunderstorms predicted for GF

Not sure about that Ant. Long bombs in wet weather are always safer than overusing. That said, it may force both teams to use identical tactics which you'd think would make it very interesting. :thumbsu:

I tend to believe Geelong won't be able to go long and down the guts if its too wet. Will head out wider to be safe which hopefully will play into out hands.

I reckon it will be a disadvantage to us.

As people have said before, footy 101, when it's wet you kick it as much as you can. Which is a negative for us, because we rely heavily on our creative plays with out handballs to get us those goals.

Plus if we bomb it down inside 50, we have to REALLY stop Scarlett and Taylor because they will rip us to shreds if they get loose.

And Cloke and Dawes will struggle in the wet too, however that said our smalls really relish it in the wet. BLAIR.

Saying all that, I have absolutely no idea what Geelong is like in the wet.

I think Pies need to take out Chapman and Kelly by close tagging them and laying hard tackles to make them re-think of going for the ball..... not dirty tackles but HARD, bruising tackles.... Cats have done it in the past with their big bodies, Pies need to rough them up as a return.

Against Hawks, I saw some players lacking courage... Wellingham was one of them... cant be afraid of contact... embrace it and leave everything on the field.... offseason to recover :)

Really?

Our two best games came in the wet, against North and Port.

Granted the opposition was crap, but our skills were as polished in the wet as they were dry.

If it does rain on GF...

I think Pies would need Beams, Wellingham, Pendles to present themselves forward as much as possible... bang it hard and long and hopefully the skills and speed of these guys allow scoring opportunities..... kick the point if you must.... better than having Cats players/defenders run the ball from Pies 30-40m line and into their inside 50s... atleast if a point is scored, allows the pies defenders to setup around the 60-70m line (from Pies goals) which is the start of the press......

Kick the BALL towards the Goal... sacrifice accuracy and "clean" looks for scoring opportunities.... this is how Pies can combat Cats immense inside 50s tactic.

Melbourne is getting absolutely pissed on right now.

I think if it does rain as predicted it will be a much more neutral game.
If it were dry I think either team could run all over the other, however the rain will dampen the pace of the game and it will all come down to will.

Don't think it being wet will advantage either team over the other. Wet weather footy advantages the hard nosed players and the highly skilled players and both sides have a good measure of both.

Looking at the weather predictions it's looking like it's getting dryer the closer it gets to Saturday. Wouldn't be surprised if the weather was similar to the West Coast game.

You're all right about Bartel, all class in the wet. Was at the Brownlow so perhaps his ribs are ok and just a bit bruised. He will go nuts if we let him loose...mongrel. :p

Wet could suit us. Slippery conditions mean we have more time to set up better for our press, allow us to pressure the ball carrier easier, gives less time to dispose of the ball and makes longer kicks fall shorter making it harder to kick over our press.

May even make it harder for Ottens to get a clean hand on the footy to hit the ball to advantage.

I have this feeling, that if it does have a bit of moisture around, that we will witness one ALAN DIDAK have a absolute blinder. Close to going norm smith IMO. Hopefully this comes true.:thumbsu::D

more confident in beating them in wet conditions then dry, i've said it all week. They bomb the ball into the forward line looking for the likes of J-POD, Hawkins, Ottens, west...ball being slippey= less chance of marking and easiar for us to rebound out of defence. Now people may argue yes but that will happen to us also, that is correct however, our small forwards are better in my opinion, their best you would say is Stevey J who is not 100% we have a lot of players who can roam inside forward and kick a bag (Dids, Beams, Steele, Krakeour, Blair, Fas if he plays) all of whom we can easily feel comfortable with. Jimmy Bartel is a freak in the wet no doubt, bus as in daisy. Pendles is cool calm and collective 99.99% of the time which will only be a bigger advanage as he always knows how to use the ball.

If its dry however, their talls have the ability to do some damage.

Ok this is getting ridiculous..we are talking very wet muddy conditions if this keeps up. I know the MCG drains well but this rain would want to ease up.

I think we are very lucky with the weather as it makes it almost impossible for Geelong to run and carry through the corridor. It will be just a hard slog, hopefully played in our forward line.

Go Pies.

Anyone know if a place like kmart sells black (or black and white!) ponchos?

Can't find my usual crappy green one so best get a fresh one.

There was an old lady selling black and white ones outside the footy the other week.

Well, we thought they were black and white, once inside the ground, we ripped open the pack to find they were just white, but they did have the Collingwood logo on them.

The pies store sells them, maybe drop in there before the match on Saturday.:thumbsu:

The influence of David Wojnski is a major component of Geelong's movement. The rain will mitigate that influence greatly.

Do the Cats know we have our mud chamber that simulates wet and muddy conditions at the Westpac centre? It's got to be an advantage now having our wetabolic chamber. :)

Cheers matty, will certainly look into both those options (would love to still have a pies logo on my exterior) May have a look at the afl store aswell. I want to make sure I have something before going in just incase the collingwood shop sell out (which would have to be a possibility?
