Raines, Lids and Tambo

All three were quite good - Tambling the pick of the bunch as he has the most filling out to do, yet showed the best combination of poise, fight and desperation.

Raines' kicking was ordinary again. I don't really rate HBF's who run around uncompetitive HF's only to kick it out on the full or float a pass which gives the opposition defender's every opportunity.

Defensively he was pretty good while he had a decent opponent. Ran lines as usual when able, but did little with it afterwards. 6/10

Deledio gets a 6.5 for courage and occasional class, offset by some very ordinary moments.

I'd rate Tambling a 7.5/10 today.

Still plenty more to get from the last two...personally I doubt Raines will improve much from where he's at.

Raines has been rubbish this year. I must be his biggest critic.
But credit where it's due. He was great today.
I'm still disappinted in Tambling. he played well, but not great. I'd like to see a great game from Tambling befoe the season's out otherwise he's just only ever going to be a good player. We need very good players.
Lids was good to very good. made a big blunder in the last quarter, but that's all part of the learning process. Not worried about him in the slightest.

How can you say he wont be a very good player if he doesnt play a great game this year??

He has played some absolute brilliant quarters this season just needs to build on his fitness base. I think he will be a better player then deledio.

He hasn't played agreat game. He's played cameo roles here and there. I'm sick of cameo roles from him. I want him to play a great game, where he dominates, but I'mholding my breath because I don't think it will ever happen.
Bits and pieces here and there. Good stuff, bad stuff and stuff in between, bust mostly the stuff in between.
yes brilliant quarters as you say. Krakouer plays brilliant quarters evry now and then and look where he's at now.

Tambling need to get more ball, and start dominating, at the moment he is just having cameo roles flashing in and out.
Nice plagarism.

you mean, agreement!:thumbsu:
Ye gads you're right. Must remember not to try to outdrink bro-in-law who is 20kgs heavier and a far better drinker than me ever again.

From day 1 wallace said that we should only expect those cameos from tambling the first few years. It wont be till he has had 5 or 6 pre season before we really see the consistency over 4 quarters.

Just have to be patient.
oh dear..we already got kraks who is already ripe for the picking!

Raines ......... After finally getting to see my team live this year I have to say Raines cops a bit of unfair criticism. The amount of times we have stupid players who give the ball off to him when he has a player on his hammer amazes me. Sure he makes the occassional stuff up but he played very well today 26 posses and found his target 95% of the time.

Lids...... had 20 odd posses today and looked great at times but I feel he can step it up another level but isnt. TBH I have been disappointed in him, but he has talent.

Tambling done well today, its just a shame that he cant do it every week, if he did alot more ppl would stand up and take notice, this week he showed he is a great kick, next game he will probably fail to kick a ball 40 metres.

I think we are too hard on our kids, all three players have been ok.

Sadly Tambling is on his way to becoming the new Krakouer.

In and outer. Bit-part player. Not a game-breaker like the bloke picked after him in the draft.

I hope he proves me wrong.

But I couldn't help but sigh heartily after watching Buddy kick six of Hawthorn's nine yesterday...:(

Back to the Hawthorn boards me thinks.

If anything Tambling has shown far more than Krakouer has in 100 odd games. I have doubts at times about his ability to make the transition into a midfield role but worst case scenario we will have an extremely good forward on our hands as he's already shown he's capable of kicking multiple goals fairly consistently even with a low possesion count.

that's a bit harsh on Raines tugga, he hasn't been outstanding but he also hasn't been 'rubbish' all year. a few very poor games in there, but some pretty good ones as well. His skills and decision making have let him down too often which is very frustrating, but he still needs time imo. He raised the bar too high last year (probably the enthusasm of many supporters in reality) and now that he isn't tearing every game apart everyone is on his back. A bit unfair imo.

What position does Buddy play again? Key Forward IIRC.
What position does Richie play again? Rotating HFF/Wing/Onballer if I'm not mistaken.

This is what shits me when people bring up the Buddy/Tambling debate. Buddy plays as a key forward his job is to kick goals and over his career he will kick a lot more than Bling. If Tambling can become a 20+ possession onballer with the ability to kick goals then I would gladly take that over anything Buddy offers because it make him a lot more dangerous than Buddy playing a key forward kicking goals. That is what he was doing as an U/18 player. When he develops the engine and size to compete fully at this level I expect the same thing.

His last few weeks have been good. He's looking to offload the ball more now rather than tucking it under his arm and running into trouble.
Still reckon his form prior to round 11 was bitterly disappointing.

Tambo and Lids still need a year or two to fill out. Especially Tambling, his problem is that he can get brushed off the ball still a bit too easily. Once his body has had a few pre seasons, I think he will shine.

Over the last two weeks I'm more convinced then ever that Tambo will be a star. He is lightly built, but he has so many great aspects. He can kick a goal from on the run or set shot from 50, he has awesome hands, probably the best hands in our side for a player under 188cm (which excludes, Deledio, Polak, Bowden, Richo etc.) He also ran and carried and took them on a hell of a lot today.

His decesion making was also fantasic today. Probably the best two games in a row from Tambo. He is kicking goals aswell which is good, I think he has 14 or so from 9 or 10 matches this year

Raines had a very good game IMO. Probably defensivly and attackingly his best for the club. Did a solid job on Tarrant and was there in the last quater when Newman and White were injured and King and Polak had gone missing

Deledio had a very good first half, great run and courage. His second half was less memorable, that botched kick in:o- maybe we should just leave it to Bowden and Newy. Was okay

Yeah i dont like deledio kicking out. He stuffed a kick out against essendon late too i think. If he does take it just tell him to torp it, tho i think that may be newmans job from now on. :D
