Five eyes is "google and facebook" . I haven't looked at that stuff in a while but isn't part of the loophole they have now - they can't look into me, but if they are already looking into you, I talk to you online and therefore they can look at me under the excuse that they are looking at you.

When he was filming it he was within the parameters of the reporting restriction, saying "allegedly" and he had already moved outside the boundary of the court house. He was arrested, charged and sentenced within five hours. He was saying names and actions that were public knowledge. When he was working for Rebel Media they had lawyers come in and train them on what can and can't be said when reporting to avoid issues.

The whole incident was handled very poorly hence why it was thrown out during appeal. I haven't kept up with the goings on since. Last I heard he was going back.

It is? It's not too dissimilar to some tax rates in Europe, with France and Spain both 45% after 150,000 euros, and 600,000 Euros respectively. And they've already got 10 mil at the normal rates. I would argue what's criminal is the tax dodging from multinationals, not a tax that only affects people who already earn more than $10m a year.

Then again, tax is a ridiculously complex topic. I get that there are the libertarian types who are all 'tax is theft,' but I can't say I agree with that myself.

The only context you say this stuff in is Google and Facebook. Online privacy etc etc. Which to me is the most trivial side of it. Five eyes ... You're right about what that Barnes guy is trying to explain. But surveillence is pretty universal. I think every bit of email traffic that enters of leaves the US goes thru specific physical locations where the NSA moniters everything for keywords. Room 614A in San Francisco is an example.
