It’s funnier because of how hard he went at Obama for being from Kenya

Ahhhh, the political duality aspect raises it's ugly head.

Yeah, so the president of the US is inconsistent hey? What's the world coming to?

The idea that the most powerful man in the world who regularly goes on about the greatness of his intelligence not knowing where his father was born is funny to me, and I'm not the only one, but whatever.

He's a puppet. The most interesting aspect of your current contribution is that this has just apparently dawned on you.

A puppet? For who?

The only context you say this stuff in is Google and Facebook. Online privacy etc etc. Which to me is the most trivial side of it. Five eyes ... I used to get called a conspiracy theorist for talking about this thing called ECHELON. The Alexander Downer blurted its existence to the world and now its taken for granted. That is very old news but its good you are aware of it.

You're right about what that Barnes guy is trying to explain. But surveillence is pretty universal. I think every bit of email traffic that enters of leaves the US goes thru specific physical locations where the NSA moniters everything for keywords. Room 614A in San Francisco is an example.

That EDL campaigner got what he deserved. Well not really, he still has his kneecaps, but he got a fair legal sanction.

His bullshit grandstanding nearly destroyed the trial of a bunch of pedophiles on grooming and abuse charges. He would have loved that too cos the next thing he would have done is use that legal failure to claim Muslim/immigrant child abusers are protected and get off Brad Scotts free. He was held in "solitary" while he was assessed for protection needs. IE So he wasn't released into a general population where he could have been harmed or killed by other prisoners.
Well obviously I'm not going to talk about the next level stuff all the time because that is nothing we have control over. The censorship and day to day stuff interests/frustrates me more because that is every one, and most of the population don't seem to care. If we can't talk about the basics or key issues/topics without risk of backlash then we are in trouble.

Didn't he leave the EDL in 2012 because right-wing extremists were trying to hijack the group and go against what they were originally planning?

I don't follow that stuff much (although I thought the BBC expose was excellent - similar to the recent Jim Jefferies stuff) but it was more around arrest to in jail within 5 hours. "destroying a trial" is a bit much given he used the appropriate wording as well as public knowledge printed in papers etc. Fair enough if he leaked unknown info. From memory he received a court appointed solicitor and was refused access to his regular one. He was put in solitary for 2 months. When he was in gen pop someone tried to throw boiling water with sugar on him so I agree it was probably for the best to keep him in there.

I'm not saying his theme or what he says is right or wrong (don't follow him close enough to know) but purely arrest to jail seemed extremely streamlined and not by the book whatsoever.

I think most people have a handle on what racism is. I’m a white bloke from Australia and I’m pretty sure I know what racism is.

The context of what he was saying -review of Dumbo said its seemingly neither racist or terrifying. Who would expect dumbo to be racist? People criticising Star Wars because it doesn’t deal with slavery in an appropriate manner.

Honestly mate.

He is full of shit. Last October a British cop came out and said the UK police forces were still institutionally racist. How often do cops criticise their own? Youtube bans black british rappers regularly. GG is silent on that of course I presume that's cos free speech is only for some.

Then campaigners like Pie come out and act as if all those problems have been solved and the only "racism issues" are non existent movie crap.

https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures...e-and-the-law/policing/stop-and-search/latest

in 2017/18, there were 3 stop and searches for every 1,000 White people, compared with 29 stop and searches for every 1,000 Black people

If he'd said "These people are ****en idiots criticising Dumbo instead of this" he would have had a point. Instead its all "Nothing to see here lets laugh about it and turn a blind eye."

Its not that these people don't have a point criticing PC w***ers, its that they use PC w***ers to pretend the issues that drive PC responses don't exist anymore.

I think Trump is a genius.

As soon as you accept he never wanted to be PUSA, instead he wanted to build his brand and fortune.

He walked into office with under $10b. My prediction is he will be worth 10 times that within the decade of leaving office, probably sooner.

The politics is a guise, it's all been about sowing seeds to further his wealth.

Edit - I in no way think that it is a good thing that someone with that aim holds the most powerful position on earth.

Tommy Robinson reported on a trial in a way that would have given the immigrant defendents cause to claim they had their right to a fair trial compromised. That's why he went to jail.

He did it knowing what he was doing and he probably did it so they'd get off and he could then use that to further his anti immigrant agenda.

I've actually had a bit of a hunch too after reading some people's accounts on twitter, that the regular gaffes he comes out with are sometimes, but not all the time, strategic. For example, if there is a controversial policy, or something genuinely concerning around his presidency, he'll come out with something dumb, and the focus will be on that rather than the other thing because people like making fun of him and his team know it.

The PR and strategic team around him though are world class, as you would expect obviously. It's been a long time since a US leader has established such a, for want of a better word, brand around him. It's almost a cult of personality.

I agree 100%

Wealth, the power, and a few laughs. Honestly, Jack Dorsey should be giving him part of twitter. The traffic he's sent their way over the past few years. Not only directly but the flow on effect to news sites and between people. Even Washington Post and co. getting a Pulitzer for their coverage of the Russian collusion stuff. The popularity and power he has. I remember as a kid thinking Bush and Vince McMahon were popular because they were hated...jesus he is going to leave one hell of a legacy when he finishes up in 2024.

The question of the day is wtf most of you posters do during the day?

Unemployed?
Shift workers?
Uni Students?
Politicians?

Where do you get the time to sit here and write War & Peace on.....opinions?

I'm bludging right now cos its pissing down outside and i don't have anything so pressing I need to work in the rain.

It is? It's not too dissimilar to some tax rates in Europe, with France and Spain both 45% after 150,000 euros, and 600,000 Euros respectively. And they've already got 10 mil at the normal rates. I would argue what's criminal is the tax dodging from multinationals, not a tax that only affects people who already earn more than $10m a year.

Then again, tax is a ridiculously complex topic. I get that there are the libertarian types who are all 'tax is theft,' but I can't say I agree with that myself.
Not quite libertarian here, but my 2c is that anything over 49.9% of any dollar legitimately earned is immoral.
I would hope campaigners making that much money are putting something back in, but I certainly don't want it forcibly taken off them on my behalf.

Tax dodging multinationals: completely agree. The funds put towards fighting that in last night's budget ate overdue IMO, and I just hope they are sufficient.

He isn’t saying racism doesn’t exist or those other things don’t exist. Hes simply saying people wear not being racist like a badge of honour when in reality not being a racist or a homophobe is expected.

Serious question, does England have free speech? I know America does but I also know Australia & Canada don’t. People think we have free speech but we don’t.

Again, he said "allegedly" and used names and information that had already been printed on websites and newspapers. If he was wrong why did the attorney general overrule it? Even rapists and murderers get a fair trial. They even told the British media not to report the Tommy Robinson case or risk facing action from the courts.

He did it knowing what he was doing and he probably did it so they'd get off and he could then use that to further his anti immigrant agenda.[/QUOTE]
Do you know what the EDL is?
I do know. I know why it started and I know it clearly got out of control. I also know that any word against Islam automatically makes paints you as far-right in a lot of people's eyes. Yet we've been okay with questioning the bible and Christianity for some time. Hell even Jordan Peterson had his book removed and Cambridge fellowship cancelled because he dared to take a photo next to someone wearing an 'Islamophobia tshirt'. I'd prefer to listen to people and understand them before labelling all and sundry an extremist or alt-right.

I would ban anyone who was more than a moderate Islamist from entering the country.....................................

Yeah, that's fair, although I would question the 'legitimately earned' bit for some people that fall in that bracket, but yours, I'm pretty sure, is the common opinion when it comes to tax. As I said though, the whole philosophy, I guess is the word, of taxation is ridiculously complex and there are some good points made on all sides of that debate.

"they've already got $10 mil at normal rates? what do mean?

45% is a massive difference to 70%!

multinationals have nothing to do with a 70% tax rate, the 70% relates to personal income tax. how about governments smarten up and crack down on multinationals instead of trying to recoup it through individuals?

yes tax is a disincentive, i subscribe to the 80/20 rule and the individuals that are doing 80% of the work and being punished for it through getting 50% or more of their income taken from them only hurts society. i know this won't align to the ideology that all rich ppl are evil but some of us here don't have tall poppy syndrome.

I really enjoyed reading 'the god delusion' and 'god is not great' in my teens.

I also enjoyed watching this discussion and viewpoint. Not on there being a god but a consciousness etc. I need to watch it again and do some follow ups.

A puppet? For who?

The military/prison/FF industrial complex and Wall St. Like every president before him going back to WW2. (With the possible exception of JFK but I wouldn't bet on it.)
