I suppose we're both here because we're gullible enough to believe North are going to win a flag in our lifetime.

*More flags. We've already seen multiple flags in our lifetimes ;)

But real talk, if we decriminalised all drugs, including meth, then we could totally reshape our police's priorities so they could actually focus their attention on crimes against the person.

This only works if there's a HUGE focus on positive drug education, intervention, support, infrastructure, etc etc etc.

We've had community in the Footscray area talk about protesting an injecting centre that hasn't even been actually proposed!

There's the ideal, and there's reality. And there's a chasm between the two.

(I'm all for safe injecting rooms, for the record)

This is a project censored report on the situation in North America.

Here in B.C. we have a stretch of highway between Prince George and Prince Rupert that's referred to as the "Highway of Tears", because so many Indigenous women and girls have gone missing on it.

Highway of Tears - Wikipedia

I think I've posted clips from the N'we Jinan Artists before on here. It's a guy who goes to remote First Nations communities and makes music videos of songs the kids write together. This one is from the Kitsumkalum First Nation, located along Highway 16.

My favourite N'we Jinan song is this one though. I did a spay/neuter trip to Tsay Keh Dene a few years ago. Everyone in that community is a residential school survivor, or descendant. It's a really rough community, with a ton of substance abuse and domestic violence. Doesn't help that on top of the residential schools, the BC government also flooded their ancestral land and burial grounds to build a dam. They've been displaced twice by flooding.

These kids were so great though. And if you said you recognised them from their video, their faces would just beam. But man, they're so isolated. 500 kms north of Prince George (parallel to the Alaska Panhandle!) Terrifying ride in a small plane to get there. Bush pilots are amazing though. Our guy landed the plane on a gravel road like it was glass.

I also got to meet the beautiful Ospika - the yellow lab mix in the clip. (And yes, we did a neuter and vaccination! 🐕)

Anyway, I love their song, and remembering them when I watch it. Glad we weren't there in winter though.

Still no talk from our PM about investigating residential school deaths as crimes. The government's court battles with survivors continue, and there is no plan to drop them. All responsibility of "researching" the deaths, and searching for more graves is still being placed squarely on the shoulders of the victims. Imagine having to solve your own child's death. I am angry and heartbroken about my country right now.

There's another side to that coin, though.

An average 18 year old kid doesn't intrinsically know how to find and purchase meth. For all it's proliferation around the community, it is (thankfully) still quite rare in comparison to (for example) a dime bag of hydro weed.

Anyone with any experience in pragmatic risk-mitigation will tell you that increasing the availability of/access to a dangerous substance outweighs the potential benefits gained, no matter how pure the intentions.
that dreamboat scenario has left the building when pills and powder become cheaper then a night on the booze..

I’d say most 18 year olds already have enough connections to know where to get drugs if they want them..

Thing is folks do not understand just how corrupt and violent and ill regarded VicPol are internationally.

When I worked as a journo in Scotland I covered Home Affairs.

I was astounded at just how different the major Scottish forces were culturally to VicPol.

And I had very senior Scottish cops asking me if the stuff they heard about VicPol was true.

VicPol are far closer to the US forces in terms of culture.

They need to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up.

If you have a mobile phone with 4G which is all mobile phones, you can buy meth within an hour or two.

You don't need to Know A Dealer or any crap like that

With the recent spate of home invasions I’m waiting for the armed offenders squad to be reinstated, vicpol are probably just itching for a change in .gov to roll out the plan too.

certainly outdated thinking.. naive to think, kids who’ve grown up with Bitcoin and encryption don’t know where to get drugs.

I used to do at lot of drugs. Mainly because when I was young I was into a very drug heavy musical culture - the rave scene.

But even in the 20 yearsish since now and then, it is just astounding how much drug availability, price and purity has changed.

There's always bumps in the market and supply, but in those two decades. drugs like amphetamines, opiates, MDMA, cannabis have got significantly cheaper in both nominal and real terms, far easier to get hold of and far better quality in general.

It is quite astounding.

You can just go on Gumtree ffs

Lol, does not surprise me…
I’m not down with the latest lingo but I’m sure there’s code words all through Facebook marketplace as well, hiding in plain sight.

Totally.

And the reality is there's an open air drug marketplace in Melbourne that's tacitly permitted by the police.

Simply because it is easier for them to have it in one spot.

Drug "addictions" are a manifestation of underlying psychological trauma.

Dr Gabor Mate is your go to mentor about this. Brilliant man. Check out Dr Carl Hart also.

Society, generally, really IS to blame.

Have listened to Carl Hart a few times. He’s awesome. Though I think there’s something in it that people should stay away from a lot of mind altering drugs till their brain is fully developed.

As long as drugs are illegal, they will be corrupted and do the sh*t we've seen them do for decades in terms of working hand in hand with criminals to increase the drug supply.

Drugs are now cheaper, higher purity and more widely available than ever before.

Our police are more corrupt and less interested in actually being part of society, than ever before.

Legalising drugs has been very positive for Portugal hasn’t it?
