Interesting, as he has shown to have a composed look about him so far. I know Lyon is interested in playing more youngsters this year, probably too early to tell. Signs are good though, more likely to play mid-season I think.

True. But there are options around the 100K mark which are much cheaper than Swallow that will score very well very similar. However Swallow will play if fit while some of these guys are an unknown.

Off course the NAB Cup will change this so no rookie is locked in just yet

Coverage is a big deal in 2011 and the higher priced "rookies" on the whole have better job security. If things go pear-shaped with one of them through injury/poor form, you have the flexibility to trade them to any sub $150k rookie that is tearing it up.

You don't have the same trading choices with a cheap rookie unless you have some reserve cash.

I rated this guy super high in my mock drafts.... Good East Fremantle product and I think will make it at AFL level. Not sure where he is playing at the Saints, but I can see him as an improvement on McQualter.

Played against this kid quite a bit and followed his progress. You would think hes an improvment on McQualter, Eddy and also can play similar to that of Peake. I would probably select him ahead of those 3. He smashed out some big numbers playing 5 league games for east freo last year IIRC avg~ 23 posses, had several goals and points kicked and has tackles and marks in his game.

Stkilda really need to focus on getting games into Winmar, Armitage, Cripps and Lynch this year if they are to continue improvement and look at another flag. Hows winmar going? TOM12

As for Swallow vs the 86k rookies. He is defiantly worth the value, he will be more around 160k IMO rather than 180k. But i dont see many 86k players id prefer over him. Even a player like Maverick Weller is very borderline best 21. Most GC fans dont have him in the side, although that was before he was in the leadership group. But leadership doesnt mean guaranteed games. Other than that there isnt much else i would be certain of having that will play consistant games, remember you need the rookies in the best 20 now not the best 22.

Sure some mature aged players like Mzungu are better prospects based on value, but he goes without saying.

It's a good discussion, Swallow vs 86K. In reality if you're going to start 1 or 2 rookie priced players on the field you need to find 5 in the midfield who'll get early games safely. That's a tough challenge. Mzungu you mentioned, Callinan, Iles, Stanley maybe I Smith. There's also others in between that could be value cheaper than Swallow but > 86K as well. Atley being talked up at North, Harris obviously plus Krakouer and maybe Heppel or Jacobs.

Imo at of all those player you named who are players im considering all have best 20 doubts let alone best 21 doubts besides Harris and probably Jacobs, Mzungu (just).

Callinan will likely be the small forward for the crows.

Stanley, Illes, Atley, Heppell, Krak, I.Smith by no means best 20 let alone best 21.

Fair call, we get carried away at this time of year. Tell me why you think Krakouer (presumably Nathan?) isn't best 22 (which is what I think you meant), let alone 21.

Andrew Krak (magpie one?). I think he is best 21 but he is breaking into a very depthy collingwood side, so its not guarantted games, thats what im saying.

How i see it with job security (JS)

1. Swallow
2. Harris
3. Jacobs
4. Mzungu
5. Krakouer

than the others a cut behind that were mentioned above.

Ditto. And I wouldn't read huge amounts into the leadership group info out of the GC- leadership groups are often picked by the players themselves, so it doesn't necessarily mean a player is guaranteed games.

The clubs leaders were selected by the players during a closed vote at the club’s pre-season training camp at Mooloolaba in December.

Weller enjoyed being a member of last year’s coach-appointed leadership group during the club’s VFL campaign, but this year, with all eight club leaders voted in by the playing group, was something altogether different.

I'd probably put Mzungu over Jacobs (only because of the injuries at Freo). Also, I reckon Heppel is on a par with Jacobs in terms of likely early games. However, both are ripe to be starting subs.

+2

But apart from Harris and Swallow no-one is a certain starter

Might be slight bias towards Jacobs, probably my favourite new player from the draft. Wouldve taken him at 3 or 4.

For me Port are in a period where they need to blood new kids and he is training very well ive heard and is more than ready made. Port have some very ordinary players that need to be removed from the side through young kids.

But yeah Mzungu is pretty much on par if not in front hard to tell. But having a look at a good best 21 i saw he was the 21st player with all the injuries not included and players like Barlow and Mcphee not in that side, fremantle have a depthy list.

Same as Essendon we have a bit of depth, if i was coach i would play Heppell week in week out at essendon and through the midfield which is good to hear hirdy is also thinking like that. A team i did with him in it on the HBF a long time ago had Jetta, Myers, Colyer, Howlett on the bench and slattery, reimers, williams, Prismall,Hibberd, NLM,Welsh not in the team. So he has alot of competition, because dons have quite alot of depth now.

It's Dream Team Eve!!! What does everyone hope Father Dream Team will bring them this year? I hope we find a few big suprises that'll shake the game up a little under the Dream Team Tree. It was alot easier to choose which star we put on the top of the tree this year. We went with Dane Swan because he is a gun.

Don't forget to leave Father Dream Team some cookies and milk......whoops I mean a few rookies to milk and upgrade :p
