I know it's all innuendo but this is why we have these forums. Damien Barrett (who, let's be honest, I don't really respect much at all) mentioned these 2 names in addition to Trengove and Moore who may want out of Port.

I don't know much about Butcher, but he had big wraps on him as a key forward going into the 09 draft. The talk is he has great hands but is an average kick for goal. We desperately need a key forward or 2 and I have a feeling he will attract the interest of many clubs, esp us who are screaming out for a decent contested marking forward. I'm not sure why he hasn't been given any games by Port but I assume he's had some injury troubles or he just simply isn't ready?

Carlisle is another one that interests me. I think we have improved tenfold this year in defence, but I reckon we have all come to the realisation that we will never get a full season out of Jammo, and with Jamison constantly getting injured and one of the least durable players running around in the navy blue, one feels that we could do with another gorilla type defender. I think we are all hoping Watson can be that player but Carlisle is ready-made.

Thoughts?

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

would love butcher but doubt it would happen. Havent really heard any speculation that he wants to leave

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Alipate Carlisle, yes please, good key defender. butcher not sure about. i haven't seen him play at all

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

John Butcher if he is coming back to Victoria we must get him, no question asked you bretratabagers. Let's get no more short people midturnerovers already. No mid size defecters or father and son spanks or Melbourne spudhackers for fist round picks. John Butcher get him NOW.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Wouldn't go near Carlisle, doesn't seem to have the attitude we would be looking for.

Butcher was playing good footy in the SANFL, reportedly averaging 2-3 goals a game before recently suffering a hamstring injury. That's about as far as my current knowledge goes but I saw a bit of him in the champs during his draft year.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Butcher - no chance he's leaving the Power. He's coming along nicely for them and they're reportedly quite pleased with his progress. Was never drafted as a quick fix solution for their team. If you want one of their forwards you'd be looking at Jay Schulz who could potentially be swapped out in favor of Butcher as soon as next season (not saying I'd go for him as he failed at Richmond (then again, that's not saying a great deal) and may be one of those guys who needs to be 'at home' to do well).

Alipate Carlile - I've always been a fan. He has soured greatly on the PAFC this season and is anticipated as heading up to GWS to once again join Williams. He'd cost us too much. If there was a defender from the Power that I'd ideally love to get (he's not going to be available, at least I don't believe so) it'd be Troy Chaplin. Love him to bits. Great leader. If we could somehow snare him and keep Jamo right that'd be a great combo with two absolute leaders.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Could not see port letting butcher get away they have put alot of development into the kid and the word is he is developing nicely and has started to play some good footy at SANFL level. After putting 2 years of development into a big player just to have him leave to go home would be devastating for port .

Carlile on the other hand would be great for us would give us more depth in the key defender department he works had and is well respected and would give us some back up if a jamison bower laidler was to get a serious injury . However i wouldnt be throwing the kitchen sink at him in trade week . Good player would add depth if he came at the right price

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Carlisle will be at GWS

I'd be pretty confident on that one too.

You can just tell that his head or heart isn't at Port Adelaide this year, he's been pretty ordinary after showing a lot early on.

You'd think that he'd get back to playing good footy when he is settled at GWS.

Carlile has been out for a few weeks with a hip injury - been carrying it for a good part of this season. Butcher was injured after the draft - back ... eased into 'B's last year ... has been going ok this year in SANFL - marking well, chasing, tackling, a few goals but no bags ... without setting alight ... been out for last month with hammy - back in 'A's this week vs Claremeont in Foxtel cup.

Both injury prone ... you dont want them?

Barratt is a spinner of BS, too.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

His name is Carlile.

Butcher is contracted until the end of 2012 and has been injured for a fair portion of the last two seasons since we drafted him. Cant see him leaving at this stage - we will throw a lot at him.

Carlile on the other hand is a possibility, though has come out and has not suggested he wants to leave, its all hear say that he wants to go home as he misses his family. Not sure why that means he would want to go to GWS...

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

I can say with knowledge that Carlile enjoys being in Adelaide, now saying that i can imagine that many players want out of Port at present and Carlile would be no different.

GWS would be after him, but he is a Victorian kid so may want to come back to Victoria, from what I know he is undecided at present.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Would love to get Carlile but i doubt we will and he is a very underated defender and take no notice of this years form for whatever reasons as i still think his best footy is ahead of him and not behind.

Butcher i don't know much about either so cant really comment.

Butcher gone he be leaving South Australia I reckon he finds the place to be a bore full of churches and people who don't shower. I think he wants out 100% coming to Carlton or St Kilda just a deal is needed. Port may trade him in this year draft as he may walk out with Port getting nothing and possibly folding.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

IMO Jesse White would be a good fit at Carlton. Before this season, he was a massive target. Has fallen away badly buy is a Big FF. Something we oh so desperately need

We need a natural footballer although, he was a basketballer he will be 24 years old, so really should be performing by this stage. He would be a shot at least of the not so big names. I wouldn't give away too much on the fact he isn't a star or was a early pick. There always a reason for that like the basketball thing and learning to play footy.

No thanks.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

I'd be interested in Butcher for sure. A key forward with two years of development under his belt. No idea what his form has been like at SANFL level, but I did see a bit of him in 2009, and liked what I saw. I suspect though that the club will target players that are ready to go for round 1, 2011.

As MS3 said, Carlile will be at GWS next season.

Tom Hawkins?..

Want people's thoughts on the idea of getting Tommy Hawkins
to Carlton next year.

He would fill a need for us and provide a target to kick to.

Fwd line could Consist of;

Betts Hawkins Waite
Walker Henderson Garlett

Hawkins for a 2nd Rounder?
Straight swap for one of Bower/Armfield/McClean

Thoughts?

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

No thanks. We have enough talented players with confidence issues. Besides, Cats would want a lot more than his trade value is (AKA not much).

We are better off trying to offload one of our smaller blokes and a first rounder for a good developed tall.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

Wouldn't be against it provided we don't have to sell the house for him.

We definitely need to chase a ready-made tall forward. If we don't then I have no idea WTF we're doing.
