I think it is a pretty good deal for all.

Freo keeps it's second and offloads surplus (Griffin) for value (Bower)

Port gets promising ruck (Griffin) and stays in the second

Carlton free up list space and get a good pick

Third round pick swap is more or less an equalisation measure. Freo gets a little more, and Port won't be too flustered about a 5 pick downgrade when they get the second rounder as well

I agree with you, but the press is reporting Lyon is keen to hang on to Griffen, perhpas worried about Sandilands breaking down as he gets on?

Clarke is a handy back-up I would have thought and Bradley is fine as a second ruck. Griffen could certainly claim top spot, but it might end up in a Warnock/Kreuzer/Hampson situation, except Kreuzer is better than the Freo second stringers by some margin.

clay smith

"hoping it's not Lake"

Such a short memory. He could be so valuable to our team at either end and could almost be the final piece of the puzzle.

Hypothetically carlton get in on the Brisbane/Freo trade:

Brisbane:
Lose: Mitch Clark, 34, 52
Gain:pick 16, 20, O'halpin

Freo:
Lose: Pick 16, 20,
Gain: Bower, Clark,

Carlton:
Lose: Paul Bower, Setanta O'halpin, Gain: 34, 52

Brisbane get a make-shift Clark replacement in O'halpin (no where near the quality, but depth coverage while you develop a replacement) and two first rounders.

Freo lose the first two but get their man Clark, and quality in Bower.

Carlton get picks for players and free up list space
