To be honest those people are about as diverse a group as those gathering at Portsea Polo. If you didn't attend a private school that had some association with rowing, you wouldn't even think about the sport. I can see why it's a nostalgic sport though, I mean why on earth would you bother when an outboard motor takes ten seconds to bolt on.I don't choose to do things based on their popularity, I choose to do things because I enjoy them.
Plus, our family has a history of rowing. My brother actually rowed at UPenn a couple years back. The regattas in the American Northeast are insane. More people care about rowing than I think you realise.
