Plus, our family has a history of rowing. My brother actually rowed at UPenn a couple years back. The regattas in the American Northeast are insane. More people care about rowing than I think you realise.

To be honest those people are about as diverse a group as those gathering at Portsea Polo. If you didn't attend a private school that had some association with rowing, you wouldn't even think about the sport. I can see why it's a nostalgic sport though, I mean why on earth would you bother when an outboard motor takes ten seconds to bolt on.

On that topic, the Olympics bring back feeling of nostalgia. Think it's because it was always on free to air tv and you could see sports that you didn't have access to because of the lack of the internet.

I remember very little from London, Beijing, Athens and Atlanta. The Kookaburras finally winning gold in Athens, Usain Bolt romping in the 100m in Beijing... that's about it.

Sydney 2000 I remember like it was yesterday and it gives me huge nostalgia pains, and for some reason Barcelona does the same. 'Amigos para siempre you will always be my friend...'. When I was in Barcelona I was excited to see the Olympic stadium and cauldron even though I was only 7 or 8 when it was on TV.
