Late afternoon and evenings are pretty quiet on this board and Ive noticed a few posters in the more niche sub-boards posting at ungodly times for Aussies. Those based in the North America, Europe or Sth Americas.

Id like to have a thread for footy, culture, media, or whatever where those that are on the other side of the world, while the rest of you sleep.

Ello ello ello.. Fail thread fails to deliver.

Whats happening in your part of the world?

Popped into Cannes today for a Pint of Leffe for under 5 euros.. Super impressed... But the poker at the Casino is nuts... Dont go without at least 1000.

I had some fish and noodles cooked Asian style. I made it last night and brought it for work today. I should have eaten it last night because it didn't take well with being fridged and nuked. Lesson learned.

Ok, I'll join in. Big Footy is very quiet in the morning for me. This doesn't help when I'm trying to procrastinate at work.

Sounds like you've really taken to the French food, Dice Man. It's almost lunch time here. No idea what I'm having. Got to get better at preparing meals at home.

Food is awesome in France Catfish, and so much better quality at a cheaper price than in Aus. Same with beer wine and spirits..

Mooster... who even considers reheating fish in a Microwave? Are you on Acid man???

It was in a broth so I thought it might work. Didn't obviously. I would never consider nuking a simple filet. I would eat it cold with a cold sauce like remoulade. The noodles were good.

Do the sole while in Europe. I despise catfish. Never trust a fish without scales. They're bottom feeders. Most fish will eat shit, but catfish think it's a delicacy.

No disrespect intended to the internet name "Catfish." I thought swordfish had scales? I like it anyway. It's heavy, flavorful and a good substitute for those who find tuna pungent (I don't). I've had shark before and it didn't have a good evening. I'm sure it was because of all the cheap wine we were drinking that night, but I've steered away from shark ever since.

I also don't like lobster. Cockroaches of the sea, overpriced where I live and not really a lot of flavor that isn't added to it. "Oh but you can dip it in melted butter!" I know. You can dip anything in butter but you shouldn't have to. It's all subjective I suppose. And what else is there to talk about in the "middle of the night, eh?" :)

Sole is everywhere here but I havent actually had it yet. Though I must it comes highly rated. Had plenty of food quality salmon and tuna, codfish(I dont think Portugal knows there are other fish in the sea) and its better than I expected... Euro seafood.

Had lobster last week... Take it or leave it for me, but I think Prawns are the real bottom feeders. I avoid them.

Mooster, where I'm from (Melbourne) you always get shark when you order fish and chips. We call it 'flake' and I miss it :( It's all about the salmon and halibut in Vancouver. All of this talk is making me want to take my rod out and go catch something! Haven't done that for a while.

I see you're a Chiefs fan. It's been a fairly interesting season. What are your thoughts on the playoffs?

I have a formula for the playoffs. I'm from Kansas City so obviously the Chiefs are my first team. As a matter of fact I drive past the stadium every day to and fro work and I salute Arrowhead with each passing despite a horrid misspent season. If the Chiefs are out, then I go for the Packers. The Moosters are originally from Wisconsin. My brother lives up there now. We're a bona fide Packer family but never ahead of the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs are out, then I'm in for Green Bay. If both are out, then I go for an AFC team not in the AFC West and that goes for the Super Bowl as well unless the Packers are in. I also never barrack for Tom Brady or anyone named Manning. I don't like successful players unless they're my successful player.

So right now I'm gladly following Green Bay while drowning my Chiefs woes in plenty of beer. The strongest teams in the AFC seem to be Denver and New England. That's the way they fell in the seeds, but an accurate representation of what the AFC Championship game COULD be. Any given.....playoff day. It's hard to say how the NFC might fall. The most consistent team is Atlanta. I'm obviously going for Packers as long as they're in, but if they get knocked off, I'll go for Atlanta simply because everyone in KC wants to see Tony Gonzales get a Super Bowl ring.

Nice. Good to hear about who you support and your predictions. I've only been getting more into the sport in the past few months. No hockey season means there isn't much sport being shown up here. I decided to go for a west coast team. Seattle are nearby but they historically suck (not so much this year), I don't like Oakland or know much about San Diego, so I was left with San Francisco. I'm learning more about the game and following the 49ers. I'm looking forward to following the playoffs closely. Seems like a pretty open season.

The 49'ers are one of the few NFL teams I like to see do well. They had such a horrible time in the 2000's that it erased my grudge against them for being so awesome in the 80's. I was also a staunch admirer of Joe Montana - especially after he became a Chief. :) The Chiefs have a fine roster (5 Pro Bowlers and 2 alternates in a year going 2-14). We were botched this year by poor coaching and to a lesser extent poor management. Looking at a team like the 49'ers who essentially turned themselves around in a single season (last year) by bringing in a competent coach brings hope and perhaps some vindication next year for the pain suffered by Chiefs fans in the 2012 season.

Good luck to your 9'ers - unless you go against the Pack in the playoffs. I wish you no injuries regardless.

Johnson to Thirimanne,OUT, caught at fine leg! Thirimanne fails to make the most of his second chance after that successful referral, Johnson hammered it short and it was climbing, Thirimanne went for the hook and couldn't clear Bird, good bowling by Johnson

Lyon to Samaraweera,OUT, brilliant stuff by Hussey and Samaraweera has thrown it away! Very uncharacteristic shot by Sam, it was tossed up, he went down the pitch and tried to launch it out of Sydney, didn't get to the pitch of the ball properly, miscued it and Hussey pedals backwards at mid-on, kept his eyes on it and cupped it above his head and fell backwards

TT Samaraweera c Hussey b Lyon 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
