Well, on relfection here...

He looked as though he may have started to come good at stages last season, but now has gone backwards again...

There were a lot of people a long way off the mark in regards to Lucas.

Firstly he has a brilliant attitude, poor lad gets so much unfair criticsm that it's remarkable, but to his credit he puts his head down and works his socks off game after game. Absoloutely top notch attitude.

In Brazil he was a box-to-box midfielder who got forward a lot and Rafa employed him as a defensive minded midfielder and I've certainly seen him grow as a player, his defensive game is so much better than it was a couple of years ago. He gets criticed for playing sideways and backwards a lot which is unfair as he's not in the team as a distributor, look at Sergio Busquets at Barca for example, he pretty much does the same.
He certainly is capable going forward when he gets the change though, and I'd love to see him get more attacking freedom, he got that opportunity in the Europa League last season and flourished.

IMO he has been Liverpool's best outfield player over the last 12-18 months, and that may not be saying a lot given how the team has been performing, I'm certainly a big fan of his mostly cause he has a great head on his shoulders.

He'll be the Brazil team at the 2014 WC don't you worry about that.

Its all good saying he works hard, which i agree he does!

But what individual skill is he good at? He's not a GREAT tackler, he's not a GREAT passer, he's not GREAT at holding the ball and hes not GREAT at scoring goals?

I just think that none of his individual skills are good enough to fit into a particular position, think back a couple of years when we finished second who were our 3 main midfilders:

Gerrard - brilliant at scoring from the midfield
Alsonso - had an awesome passing game
Macherano - broke down oposition attacks time after time as he was an extremelly good tackler

Which one of those 3 positions does Lucas fit??

"Alsonso" - 1 great year for the Poo.
Masch - highly overated IMO!

Brazilians usually go down one of two routes, either they're massive Christian goody-goodies or they're alcoholic whoremongering nutjobs.

You don't hear about Lucas getting kicked out of nightclubs for carrying a gun or anything. I reckon he's a God-botherer.
