I rated him at 20-25 before he was traded in a "rate your team's trade value" thread. He would have to be less than that now. I would say 3rd round at present.

His body has been leting him down for a long time now and his pace has waned significantly.

I thought he was only worth a second rounder last year and his value certainly wouldn't have increased this year.

slow, injury prone , questionable disposal , hack

shane tuck is a brownlow medalist compared to this guy

luke ball pick 30 , brock mclean pick 11 .................. work that 1 out !!

Pre season draft at best

Well I would consider Luke Ball a better player than an up and coming McLean. However they are very similar and therefore pick 30. By no way would you want to give pick 11....definitley a failed trade.

Comments saying he is a hack is over the top, McLean has demonstrated this year that he can still play good footy but the biggest query over him is whether he can stay injury free and put several season together and get back to his best.

Clearly this is his biggest hurdle, and what makes it worse is that he broke down again with multiple injuries after having a great pre-season.
From a Melbourne perspective we did pretty well to get pick 11 considering he wanted to leave. With the benefit of hindsight it's pretty obvious that he'd struggle with our current style of play and would probably be spending a fair amount of time at Casey if he was injury free.

His value has obviously decreased but it's too early to write him off just yet, doesn't look great though.

2nd rounder right now (as absolute best) but still has potential to be a late first rounder if he can stay injury fee, big if though.

thats not his biggest problem at all deamon heart !

injury prone
extremely slow
terrible kick
plodder

definately a failed trade, hughes should be held responsible for giving up such a high draft pick for a plodder
in todays market mclean wouldnt attract anything more than a late 3rd draft pick & most teams would bypass him altogether

melbourne r*ped carlton on this trade.

Well, it's hard to argue with you about his speed and his kicking isn't great either.

I guess my view is if he can get a couple of full seasons under his belt then it may assist with both of those issues.
I agree that the signs aren't great.

No thanks, list clogger.

Melbourne made out like bandits in that trade.

McLean >>>> Ball (If McLean actually gets out onto the park).

I would have said late first round, so I'm pretty happy with 11. Still think we forced him out a bit and he's the only reason I don't mind seeing Carlton go alright.
