Dominant performance tonight. Impressive considering we had something like 11 of our best 22 out. Pendles again was superb feeding off Wood who gave it to our mdifielders on a platter. Would like to see Wood back it up against a quality ruck and quality team. Cloke was in his best marking form and worst kicking form. At least one of them has returned. Thomas too returned to some good touch which is really important for us. Marley Williams looks a player, a natural. Cracks in hard, has a penetrating kick, good turn of speed and a touch of something special. Elliot didn't look out of place in his first real game. Also good to see Brown get through. Not sure we can take much out of that game tbh besides it was great to see a clinical performance with our defensive pressure at its best.

Footnote: It was interesting to see some intelligent moves from Buckley like O'Brien on the defensive side of midfield. Why not when we are under little defensive pressure? It was the perfect opportunity to get O'Brien amongst it. What it illustrated to me is that Buckley isn't too rigid in his coaching and reacts to individual circumstances within games. Great to see!

Very Good Big win.

My Thoughts:

  • Daisy is Back
  • Glad Pendles was not Seriously Injured
  • Loved Elliots Game. Lot like Medders.
  • Didak is starting to get his Touch Back
  • Sinclair Finshing has Improved
  • Dawes is still not putting it together but working hard
  • Equal Top of the Ladder

Set with my Mate in the Pies Reserve Seat Section:D

Lol at everyone who didn't rate Thomas, he taught GC a lesson tonight:thumbsu:. Good to see him in form.

TD I agree that while Dawes isn't getting the results he is still getting to the right places and working hard. Only a matter of time imo.

Equal first:D

Dawes is not improving. He is not getting to the right place. He was beaten pointless by Hickey around the ground. He sooks to umpires when beaten in a contest.

On the other hand, Dawes is our only 2nd ruck outside of Wood. We have to keep him in the side. He works hard, but Paine playing in his forward spot can also work hard.

Dawes needs to spend time at VFL level to work on some issues. In the past when he has gone back to the VFL, he has come back a better player. Maybe with so many players out now may not be the time to drop him. Who else in the team would be carried this way?

"Ice packs n the French open on the menu tonight! Thanks for all the well wishes. Great win by the boys today."

Hoping for a quick recovery.

Very impressive performance by the regular performers. Those that stood out to me were Jamie Elliot and Alan Didak... Didak has his flair back, I love it!! :D

On the Dawes issue, he doesn't deserve to hold his spot, was woeful against an inexperienced defender. I am convinced that he purely cannot take an overhead mark, let alone a chest mark. He is going into contests not even attempting to take a mark anymore. Wood is of more use as a key forward... If we can't find room for all of our tall defenders when fit, I would like to see him dropped when Reid, Brown and Tarrant are all available with one of the three playing Dawes' role until he starts to perform at VFL level.

Rest Pendles against Melbourne given Swan should be back.

With the bye, gets a nice break to make sure his knee is right. Most important knee in the AFL needs a rest.

Thought the boys were good, without being great. Their forward line was amazingly efficient in that first half. They also sliced through the middle quite easily.

Great win by the boys!

Elliot reminds me so much of Medhurst, the way he move, attacks the ball and the way he leads.

Thought Ugle did well when he came on, would have loved to see him kick that goal after his run!

Tom Young should be delisted at seasons end! Work rate, effort and hunger just isn't there. His effort near the 50 metre line at the city end was a disgrace.

Good to see Pendles came back on after his clash and still got 17 p's.

Felt physically ill when Pendles went down holding his knee.

Twice he has gone down with a knee problem and twice he has resurected himself to come back on & play great footy. I am going to start calling him Jesus. Really wouldn't surprise me if he started walking on water.

If Pendles is Jesus then little Gazza is God (junior). He is the best player in the competition and it should be something we remember for years to come - the day he racked up 53. Outrageous numbers when you get beaten by 100 against a top 4 side and you have a team full of kids on your side to lead. My biggest disapointment for the day was that Gazza & Pendles didn't go at it against each other for the day.

I loved Elliot's game, can easily see him slotting in to our best side. Didak makes us look a lot more dangerous in the forward half, he panics the opposition and opens up the play for us.

All in all a good result, fingers crossed on Pendles.

I'm a great fan of Gaz and on record often as such but really 31 handball recieves???? Great effort but 31 handball recieves is seagulling and really is a shame because he is so NOT that type of player:(

Both times he took a hit to the shin/calf region.
Iced his calf the fist time and had his calf worked on this time.

Saying "knee" seems to carry more panic value I think, given our players out with an actual "knee injury".

The likes of Marley, Billy, Ugle, Fasolo and Sinclair put a lot of pressure on Blair, Wellingham, Didak to play at their best week in... good to see.. reallyexcited about Elliott & Williams.... what a couple of pacey tough nuts !!!!

PS Wood & Dawes are the biggest duds in the game and Ablett should be totally embarrased with what he did out thier last night.

It is a bit much to criticise Ablett's game as something about which he should be totally embarassed. Playing on a losing team he cannot really do much better than he did. So what if he had a lot of handball receives? He had a record number of possessions and was hardly the reason GC lost the game!

Only 50% right Dawes was not very good but wood was fine in fact against ruckman who actually jump at the ball Wood is very good.Wood is actually paying a price now for past sins if people were fair in their comments on Wood they would acknowledge that he is improving and the gap between he and Jolly is growing smaller not larger.

Wood did what he needed to, he smashed a pretty average ruck opposition. No need to bag him, he did just fine.

As for the Ablett haters how about some credit where credit is due. So what if he had 31 handabll receives, the guy runs his guts out and gets to more contests, that is why he gets the touches - much like Swanny. Did anyone actually notice how hard he works?

Funny how Buckley said he'd recruit with a premium on kicking ability, and then one after the other Williams and Elliott delivered two absolute spankers.

Would have been an amazing passage if not for a fantastic spoil from Wilkinson.

Jamie is a jet guys. Not just an forward either. Way until they give him a small sniff in the guts. Enjoy watching him, because now I have reason to turn on a Collingwood game ;-)

Sorry, I would have to disagree here. He had 31 handball receives because he ran harder than any other player for the GC. In fact, he busted his gut running to position to get possession to make up for the fact that many of his teammates weren't pulling their weight. I believe he had something like 18 or 19 contested possessions too. I think you're being a little harsh. Running hard to receive isn't that easy over 3 hours on the MCG. Mammoth effort by the man.
