Close above expectations? You had him at a very low base?

It's close but Hawkins isn't at the top of the list in most of those key attributes you speak of.
Even when it comes to score involvements, you can bet your life both Pavlich and Nick Riewoldt would have been ahead of Hawkins as those statistics were only available from 2015 onward. In their prime, Riewoldt and Pavlich were two of the most dominant key position players of their generation.

Goal assists
Hawkins 0.83
J.Riewoldt 0.79
Pavlich 0.74
N.Riewoldt 0.73
Franklin 0.66
Kennedy 0.53

Score Involvements
Franklin 8.31
N.Riewoldt 6.72
Hawkins 6.70
J.Riewoldt 6.60
Pavlich 6.45
Kennedy 6.41

Tackles
Franklin 2.57
Pavlich 2.26
J.Riewoldt 2.18
Kennedy 2.16
Hawkins 1.91
N.Riewoldt 1.54

One Percenters
J.Riewoldt 1.60
Pavlich 1.55
N.Riewoldt 1.52
Hawkins 1.38
Franklin 1.36
Kennedy 1.19

Pressure Acts
J.Riewoldt 9.39
Kennedy 8.10
Franklin 7.78
Hawkins 7.70

Clearances
Pavlich 1.50
Franklin 0.48
Hawkins 0.43
N.Riewoldt 0.44
J.Riewoldt 0.39
Kennedy 0.16
No likes for that one then hey! Tough crowd! Haha

8-3 is a great result, considering our injury/suspensions and short pre-season. And to think we haven't fired on all cylinders yet...
That’s the danger. Most of us are thinking 8-3 is good and we have danger & O’Connor coming back . Guthrie, blics & Duncan had a little rest too.
We are mostly thinking we’ll be peaking in September because our form has been patchy while still getting the wins.
The other argument is we are just too old to be able to peak in September and win the thing.
Could be another 2019. Just bog average in second half of the year.
Let’s see!

watching that game is like playing video games with cheats, it's pretty good for a little while but gets boring so quickly beating up on poor defenseless Melbourne NPC's

No doubt. I would be very disappointed if we do though.

It's probably because the main argument rests on a hypothetical that cannot be proven and is dubious at best - that Pavlich and Riewoldt would have beaten Hawkins in goal assists were the stats recorded, the only one he topped in the list. Or that people noticed the only stat Pav topped was as a midfielder. Or that Nick Riewoldt didn't top any. So it is difficult to understand from those stats why he shouldn't be considered in discussions with any of the top five or six from previous years.

Is anyone else a little surprised by this and just how low Martin's coaches vote average is in matches against us?

the 2020 GF was the first time I've really seen him carry his team against us. He never really plays that well against the Cats, it's usually Cotchin, Houli or Reiwoldt bobbing up

when it mattered most... bugger him

lol never is when you provide opposing facts to popular opinion.

It's comical to imply Tom Hawkins is a better all rounded player than the likes of Nick Riewoldt and Matthew Pavlich (played multiple positions).
Most of the general public would have Josh Kennedy well ahead of him as well if you go by career to date.
Not me but that's my opinion.

The only one that comes close to Hawkins at ground level or by foot is Pavlich, he has everyone else covered easily as an all-round footballer.

Another discussion option for the bye weekend

From a Geelong perspective I know the easy answer is Mitch Duncan, but looking a little more broadly, Scott Cummins should consider himself damn unlucky

He won the Coleman medal with 88 goals and got over looked for Lloyd at FF (kicked 87 goals), while in the forward pocket was Matthew Richardson with 67 goals

I'm surprised Scott Lucas never got an AA. He was a beast in the early 00's

Think that's what annoys me the most about AA selection.

You get blokes like Duncan, Menegola who are genuine wingers that never get a look in, but players like Danger or Dusty are an automatic lock and shoved into the forward line to make it work.

Last year was probably the biggest example of a snub of a genuine winger - it was good to see Guthrie's season acknowledged, but it shouldn't have had to be in place of acknowledging Sam's season

1. Sam Menegola (Geelong)

He’s certainly not the biggest name to miss out, but the emerging Cats star’s absence from the 22-man squad typifies the continued mistake made by the All-Australian selectors. Menegola, whose growth this season has been crucial to Geelong’s success, was statistically the best wingman in the AFL this season. Yet he didn’t earn either of the wing spots, instead watching them go to teammate Cam Guthrie and Jack Macrae. Guthrie spent less than a fifth of his time during games on the wing, while Macrae was there just four per cent of the time. For too long the wing has been thought of as a place to squeeze in extra midfielders, not the incredibly difficult and crucial separate position that it is. Do we need to introduce specific position quotas to fix this?
