we've had a tendency to get up for the big games, then struggle against the weaker sides in the past... if we dont put them away by 50+ points, something is wrong...

I can sense a fire in the belly that started flaring at the end of last season.
I think that we will absolutely belt Melbourne on Saturday.... :thumbsu:

I dont think Jack has a poor attitude, his problem is he doesnt really have a great football brain and when he pushes up from the forward 50 he makes alot of poor decisions. Also what are the chances of resting Cloke and bringing in Rusling for the dees match becuase it wont be a high intensity game and he would bennefit alot from it?

If Cloke is anything less than 100% fit, he needs to be rested. He isn't mentally strong enough to play unfit.

If he is fit, he needs to be playing VFL next week. Maybe then when he comes back he will play with a bit of desperation, as he knows his spot in the side isn't the certainty it has been for so long. It also wouldn't hurt him to have a game or two where he wasn't afraid to actually go for some marks in the F50.

As much as I love him, and think it would be good for him to find some form against the Demons, Sidebottom has to go out for Beams simply because it is what is right after the way he played. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

Now don't laugh, but could Melbourne get up for their "biggest game of the year" since they've had an extra day's rest? They might just be flying very, very far under the radar, and we mustn't get cocky and miss out on a chance for a serious percentage booster.

And being an AA with 50 goals the year before holds even more weight, yet at some point you need to say that what the player did last year is irrelevant. I have to ask what Dawes needs to do to break into the side, because apparently 7 goals in the VFL is superceded by how JA played last year, how does he get a spot? How many marks does JA need to drop, how many games before Dawes is a possibility.

As I said I'm a JA fan, I reckon he'll have a good year but it's a tad unfair to Dawes and Rusling if they're doing so well in the VFL and can't break into the side even when JA underperforms. We have great depth, why not use it instead of hanging our hats on yesteryears performances and saying "He'll come good"?

I think you need to learn the difference between a 'VFL Practice Game where we win by 10+ goals' and 'High Tempo AFL H&A game against a top 3 side'.
Honestly, your suggestion is completely ridiculous. Who is to say that Anthony wouldn't have kicked 15 in that particular PRACTICE MATCH? And who is to say Dawes would even have touched the ball yesterday?
And you can not compare Medhurst's axing to a possible exclusion of Jack. Medhurst's form was shocking over an extended period of time & confidence was shot.

Because there's no point dealing in hypotheticals. Anyway I'm not going to go any further with this, I've made my point and I stick with it, if you disagree you're entitled to that.

If you guys aren't capable of beating my team in it's current state by at least 50 points, there's something amiss down at your end. Premiership aspirants should put away weaker teams by large margins, not only turn up for the big matches.

This was one of the Dees problems 5 years back when we were flogging all before us, we'd actually struggle a bit against weaker opposition.

Our problem at the moment is the player's aren't playing their natural games, they are trying awfully hard to follow a set of instructions in certain situations and you can see it.

The only possible change IMO would be.
In: Beams
Out: Sidebottom

Toovey played well i thought and no one else will be dropped.

Sometimes the games you expect to be massive blowouts don't end up that way. I remember a game last year where Geelong played Melbourne at home, and everyone expected records to be broken, and in the end it wasn't the case. I expect Melbourne to really try to lock the game down, i'm not sure it'll be as free flowing as the Dogs game. Expecting a margin just leads to disappointment, even if we win. Let's just win the thing and enjoy it, any margin is a bonus.
I hope the players don't fall into the trap of expecting an easy match. No remorse.

Will be happy with the four points and no injuries. Generally these sort of games end up closer than they should, probably because everyone expects a record margin. We're comfortably a 10+ goal better side than they are with all of their injuries, but it probably won't work out like that.

Thought it was neccessasry to bump it for the game coming up...

Who reckons Heath will played in the midfield more this week, last week he got something like 38 disposals?

personally i think he has found himself a permant decision but will still help down in the backline. looks great in the midfield.

EDIT: looks like sylvia is coming back in from a broken jaw already.... playing not 100% fit players just like the bulldogs last week, good signs again for the pies :)

Broken jaw doesn't really have impact on someone's fitness really, more their attack on the ball/willingness to put his head over it. He's a pretty hard at it player anyway, so not sure it's going to have a huge impact, unless he reinjures during the game.

I know its not fitness but he is going to feel it if he get tackled or a accidental fist to the jaw in a contest.

Its a risk bringing him back so early.

but they want there best squad against us cos its us...
