Is this more your style... Alex Silvagni's presence in our team is indicative of a brave new inclusive Carlton...

getting into mills this game reminiscent of the geelong game last year, players getting into motlop. wonder if they're lining up someone next week as well.
Hopefully their coach

copped a knee to the thigh i think, it was in a tackle/pile on.

He was already sore before that. Think he had already rolled an ankle. He would have been one sore dude later that night in bed. Could struggle to get up next week. For his sake hope it is a light week and he gets up feeling fresh by Friday morning and does a proper training session that day.

Motlop and Mills, both softer, skilful, outside types. Both used to set up attacking play.

Might be that we get stuck into Jeremy Howe or Travis Varcoe this week to try and throw off their ball use off HB.

How smart is Weitering? Watch Levi's second goal, he didn't lead. Weits places it perfectly for Levi to run onto it. Kudos for Levi though to be switched on enough to react.

Playing Weits up forward certainly releases the pressure off of Cas.

Cas struggled with the pressure of being the main forward of recent years,
Not to mention his kicking woes, and knowing he had to kick goals for the team.
And obviously the opposition players getting inside his head.

It does a lot of things.

Hypothetical:
If we played Weitering in the backline, who would have come out and who would have played Weiterings role forward?
Would have we won the game against Sydney had have we done so?

Weitering creates and we haven't many creative tall forwards.....We haven't any....and Rowe doesn't create.

The other thing with Wietering up forward is that, to mix football code metaphors, we lose a quarterback and gain a number 10. Our disposal from HB this year has been shit but Williamson's emergence could potentially solve the QB problem.

I think Docherty & Simpson have been just a little O.K.

What faith we have in a 3 game player, allowing him to take kick ins.
What faith Williamson must have in himself to execute the way he did.

Thrilled for Marchbank, but Williamson would have been every bit as deserving getting the RS nomination.

Many argue he was "only" a rookie selection so what does it matter. It matters heaps. Instead of ASOS we could have picked a rookie who, having got the opportunity might transform from a wannabe into a Brownlow medallist, like Priddis. Who knows? What we do know is we have lost that opportunity. We can ill-afford to pass up opportunities to improve our list for a tilt at a flag.

Did you hear what Cripps and Wright have come out and said about ASOS this week, he trains so Hard players don't like being match up with him. For me that just shows why you recruit someone like that, he may give you <5 games in the year but for 100 training sessions he is setting an unbelievably high standard. The young guys see what preparation is required to eek out every last bit of talent you can muster.

GWS when recruiting older players in their first years had a requirement of how these players trained more than what they could offer on field. Is it any surprise since we have the same recruiter they did in the early years. It appears to be a sound strategy...

Not having a shot at Windhover here and now we're all maybe just a little bit bored of discussing age balance, but it's clear we can't just load up on 18 year olds. We may even miss out on the one quality one for doing so, but the age profiling/experience has to be balanced out, even through a rebuild.

What happens on the track largely translates to what will come about on game-day.
The case for A. Silvagni was evident three weeks ago and he's now showed that up at the premium level. No harm done.

Also, it's no surprise we're targeting players from GWS that want to come home.
GWS have done the groundwork and you may score yourself a player ready to go, that's thrilled to be coming back to where they want to be. Double bonus.

Can anyone remember Williamson missing a target? Sure some of his kicks to a contest or hacked out of traffic have not resulted in us retaining possession, but an instance where a player was open and the ball not being served up on a plate.

Pleased with the result, and even more so with the performance.

Over the past 15 months we've heard Bolton & Trigg stress that we're not going to overreact to results. There is no clearer evidence of that than Saturday afternoon - we could not have asked for a better response to the beating we copped over in Adelaide.

Other thing impressed was every time Sydney tried to physically intimidate us, we came running in from everywhere to fly the flag.

Yep. Aside from the above, this is the other most pleasing aspect of Saturday's performance.

Dare I say it...Bolton is starting to instill the importance of 'unsociable' football in this young group.
