The good

Sidebottom was bog by a mile and stil running hard at the end

Dawes played his best game for the season

Jolly had some spring in his legs

Reid was outstanding

Pendles was Pendles

The bad

Dale Thomas was horrible (first game back admittedly but did some stupid things)

Shaw and Keeffe made some mistakes

Didak tired badly

Clarke was quiet

Pretty much agree with all of that Timmy.
I think we certainly deserved the win, but were lucky to get it in the end.

What we need to remember is that this game was for Geelong a virtual elimination final.

Selwood wasn't really that effective last night anyway. He had a couple of good patches but he didn't really change the game at any point.

36 possessions, 20 of them contested, 6 clearances, 5 tackles, 11 I50's, 27 pressure acts and 11 score involvements.

He was the second best player on the ground without a doubt, IMO I should add.

Crunch time on SEN.

Mark Robinson: Do you have Joel Selwood in your supercoach team?

Pendles: Yeah I do

Mark Robinson: Was he your supercoach captain this week?

Pendles: Nah it's Jobe Watson this week. I never make a direct opponent captain.

Robinson: Well you missed out on 280 points

Pendles: Meh.

That was the last few sentences on a public radio station. Robinson you're a flog of the highest order!!!

Pendles could have added, if I had myself I'd have scored 294 points, so stick that up ya arse Robbo.......but Pendles is too classy to do that.

There was a passage of play in the last where he tackled three pies players in a space of twenty seconds and then gave chase after; super human effort from a super player.

Paine is injured. Hurt his ankle in the VFL last week.

Oh, didn't realise that

Ideally, we just need Tarrant to get through the VFL today and be fit enough to play next week.

Otherwise perhaps Goldy or Maxwell to be the second KPB.

Lucky for us Walker is out.

I on't think we'll be rushing Taz, though he does have a great record in Adelaide :)

As for Didak, I though he was ok. Provided some much needed polish in the forward half amongst a sea of clangers. He absolutely shat himself at one point though, and within 30 seconds had the red vest on. Not sure if it was coincidence, or Bucks didn't rate the effort.

And he wasn't that far off laying one on Jolly to make it four

I'm not too sure Buckley was the best option to have as the sub. When he came on he had little impact, what we need from the sub is someone who can attack the ball and put it to our advantage.

I'm not having a go at S.Bucks here, but surely someone that is able to have a big impact in a quarter or so should be used as the sub. (For example, Ellard was excellent last week as Carltons sub. He came on and kicked 2-3 goals)

Didak was shit, it wouldnt have made much difference. Teams can surely cope with zero rotations for half an hour.

No argument from me on that respect.

My comment was responding to a poster claiming that Collingwood copping an injury after Buckley chose to use the substitute option tactically instead of keeping it to use in case of injury (its intent) almost caused a $100m operation a loss.

And that the substitute rule should be altered, to protect a coach who makes a mistake and opts to sub somebody for tactical reasons only to then get an injury.

Laughable.

Didak needs to lift his intensity, but rather him have the ball in his hands 70m out from goal than basically anybody except Pendles.

And not having Didak on the ground didn't impact the result one iota, we didn't have any missed opportunities that Dids could have helped us finish, we just couldn't get the ball going our way in the last Q.

Buckely's lacklustre handball that nearly cost a goal was hard to watch.
We just have to accept he is going to make several (costly) mistakes a game.

Senior players also made crucial mistakes. Buckley was good, one of the few to break the lines in teh last quarter when we were fiercley defending in our back 50.

He had plenty to play for.
Being the first captain to miss the finals after Geelongs awesome run would not be on his "to do" list.

Thought I'd single out a couple of facets of the game I particularly enjoyed:

The Sack was fantastic, tackled ferociously, hit hard in the contest, and hit the scoreboard. He belted Mackie for most of the night and Hunt for a little bit too. He was so far inside Mackie's head that Mackie reverted to that delightfully soft, outside footballer he was a few years ago. See the pathetic one-handed, head-down effort on the uncontested mark he spilled which led to Fasolo's second goal for a prime example. It was good to see that for the first time in a long time we made Geelong's softer players like Mackie and Hunt actually look soft, simply by being twice as hard at the contest. The Sack was a big part of this.

Wellingham had a brilliantly effective game. Didn't get it much, but when he did, made something happen. Don't think he made a mistake (maybe one miss he should have slotted), and more often than not, he made something from nothing. He's in really good form, working well as a HFF.

Jolly ran two different ruckmen off their feet last night, but just didn't get the reward. Three times he was running into an open goal, his opponent 25m behind him, and could have easily received the pass for an easy goal. Fortunately we managed to kick those goals regardless, but on another night, he could easily have ended with three goals, simply by out-working his direct opponent.

Lastly, Dawes looked like a player who was turning the corner last night. His form has been pretty ordinary so far this year, but whilst he didn't get a heap of footy last night, he looked very clean when he did. Took a few nice contested grabs and even stuck a few overhead marks on the first bite. The only blemish was a miss from 20m out on an angle, but he made up for that with his 55m bomb in the last. Hopefully this can be the turning point for Dawesy. We're a much better team when he's playing well.

I thought the game was a great tussle and while we lost thought it showed we were back on track to some sort of form.

But then heard talkback, got a few txt messages from non pies/cats fans who suggested game was a scrappy, error riddled affair beffitting two teams not in the top bracket.

Agree there were some mistakes but I had put that down to pressure

Thoughts?

Your threads on the main board about Colligwood are nothing but trolls

The sub isn't easy. Someone that can come on in the last qtr and kick 2-3 goals probably should start on the ground. Buckley is the type of player that could do that. As others have said, he can break the lines. His disposal can be ordinary at times (sometimes cringeworthy). No more than Harry at the moment.

IMO Buckley is an ideal sub. Making first year players the sub doesn't do alot for their development. They would be better playing full games in the magoos.
