This is the last thing I remember reading about Tsakmakis. Willie Koeppen's family may have some info or may be able to refer you to someone who may be able to help

Thank you for posting this. As it happens, I spoke with Willi's family a couple of years ago. We exchanged information. Unfortunately for those poor people, they still know nothing of what happened to Willi. Such lovely people are deserving of better.

I was unaware of Alex's interest in Bolwells. Thanks heaps for the link. He also had an interest in yachts. A strangely diverse and barely fathomable man.

Someone in the car ramp business may have had an interest in racing cars? Who knows. Found the link on google images oddly enough. You've probably tried Google but if not it could be another avenue to go down. Also, Births deaths and marriages register? And News Archives... https://www.google.com/search?q=ale...e.com/newspapers&source=newspapers&gws_rd=ssl

Sounds like he was a randy sort of fella.

Sounds like he would've given Ivan Milat, Lenny McPherson. David Birnie, John Bunting and the like in terms of criminal history and notoriety a run for their money.

He pursued a very active sex life. He was very picky about his partners though. They had to have a pulse. This prerequisite did not apply to the victims of his other major pathology.

He is less notorious than those you have mentioned. This is mainly because the dots between his disparate crimes have remained unconnected, to most. He was a very cunning man, some might say frighteningly intelligent, in a perverse way. However, he probably was caught too often to be considered really smart.

I new Alex , financed his engineering business in West Heidelberg , overheard a discussion about " how the body surfaced ", " circulated " with him at the old Toorak ( TokH ) hotel , Tamani's in South Yarra and was " wired " by Vic. Police ( Homicide ) as Alex had tried to kill me . For further information I will want to know more from you .

The Herald-Sun refers to Tsakmakis as, "a colorful character". An interesting description of somebody responsible for at least eight murders. What is not mentioned is that Minogue acted in self-defence. Alex was going to kill Minogue, because he (Alex) saw Minogue as a threat to his ambitions to being the H Division kingpin. Judge Hampel regarded Tsakmakis's life to be only worth the extra three months to which he sentenced Minogue for that crime (to be served concurrently with the Russell Street life sentence).

Comment is also made in the article that Minogue, who was functionally illiterate at the time of his Russell Street crime, had merely achieved higher education qualifications while in gaol. In fact, Minogue studied and passed undergraduate, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. A copper who was injured in the Russell Street bombing is quoted as saying in relation to Minogue, "He has done all his degrees, but that doesn't change who he is." If we are to maintain the pretense that there exists such a thing as a rehabilitation to be had in prison, the starting premise must be, by definition, that people can change. Neither I nor the copper know whether Minogue has truly done so. The parole board is better-placed than either of us to know that, despite the low opinion in which that institution is now held.

I don't actually have a position on whether Minogue should be released, mostly due to a lack of interest. However, if he is to be made to continue his sentence, it should be on the basis of the hideous bombing and murder for which he was convicted - a brutal crime which attacked the very foundations of civil order. For the Herald-Sun to argue that Minogue escaped penalty for what happened to Tsakmakis is simply untrue. To hang their case for a longer sentence on the murder of Tsakmakis would be disingenuous, were it not such a blatantly dishonest attempt at political manipulation.

Sorry I've not replied before this. I've been the subject of a major operation this year, and am due to have another one next month. I have also suffered a couple of bouts of pneumonia, which necessitated hospitalisation. To top off a great year, I fell over while watching a cricket match four weeks ago and busted a couple of ribs. For these reasons, my posting on BigFooty, and pursuit of this story, have been diminished. Thanks very much for the interest though. BTW, the ops I'm having are not considered to be life-threatening, assuming no onset of infection.
