With the Club election just around the corner, I am here to answer your questions - any you may have on any matter. I will attempt to answer those questions honestly but I obviously can't comment on any confidential matters.

As I have three jobs - a 24/7 job as a mum, my paid job with Westfield, and my volunteer job as a member of the board at Freo - my time on here will be limited but I'll do the best I can.

So, fire away...

Actually Kate. Is there any chance that the board could direct the executive to have a chat with the media, and stop them from constantly referring to the people on Dockerland as a true representation of Fremantle supporters thoughts and feelings??

It's very annoying.

Don't take this the wrong way but i would argue that someone who is desperate for such major changes to the club (logo, jumper, song) has not been a true supporter if they are unhappy with they way it is. I will be gutted if they change the club song to something else which could end up being worse. If i said that the new logo looks like it was designed by a kid using paint and clipart i don't know if anyone on here would argue with me. If thats the effort they put into a new club song then we are in trouble of being way more ridiculed then before. By the way i really like our current theme song and i hope the club stops the changes here.

Kate,

At the Doig Steve Rosich stated that the research into the clubs brand highlighted the word "Dockers" and "Our Team Song" as the most recognized components. In that, the word "Dockers", is now formalized with the agreement with Levi Strauss could you please explain why the team song is now being reviewed? Our team song is unique and those that have a cultural clue know the original song represents boats/ships and hard work. It is not a piggy back theme Alla St Kilda it is our and ours only. I support the retention of the song and concur re with the comments about how amateurish our new logo looks. Don't kill all of our history, there is far too much of it in the Freo Cemetery for my liking.

I see what you are saying and respectfully disagree. I was an advocate for change and I am happy with the result. I also look forward to a song change.

And I most certainly don't place the powers that be who drove these changes as not being "true supporters".

However, that was not my point. It was just a personal whinge about the media in general constantly referring to Dockerland as the only, and true, voice of the supporter base.

It shits me to tears.

Don't change the song!
The jumpers are great, the logo is getting better, I think in their excitement about being able to use the word Dockers they went over the top in sizing it at the expense of the logo.
THe song rocks. I love it. Re-record it to get rid of the awful 80's sounding production but leave the essence intact.

The 90's sounding production is part of why it is unique. Unfortunately that sound is not popular now. I don't think the song should be changed at all. A question for Kate: Is there a specific objective within the club to distance itself from all associations with the unsuccessful past? Also can we please have a cap with just the anchor and D logo?

Kate you seem pretty busy.

Anyway, good on you for campaigning on here, but where have you been the rest of the year? Especially given the changes the club has undergone. Wouldn't our questions be more relevant during that time, before the horse had bolted?

What I'm getting at is, how are you representative of us, besides holding the title of "member elect"?

Also can we please have a cap with just the anchor and D logo?

please please please. a new era style baseball cap, like those in MLB would be beyond awesome. I think this could be one of the coolest merchandising items in the afl- a solid purple cap with the achorgram raised in white stitching.

Hi Kate,
I think the most important people to be asked in regards to the song are the ones who have to sing it on national television, the players. Do they like singing our current one or would they prefer a change? And if a change is their choice then an alternative needs to be offered up to them then to the members and board before a final decision is made.
Personally, I hope they tweek it a bit to make it easier for the players to sing as they seem to stumble over part of it.
And is AC/DC's TNT a viable option? (I hope it is)

Congrats on the changes made to the jumper and logo. I think they have been more widely accepted than the originals were when we began in the mid 90's.

And when can we buy the new caps?:)

Kate I will get over the fact that we were sold a dummy by the Board of the FDFC.But what I will not get over is the underhanded way it was done.I think Rosich and Co came in with the sole purpose of changing our Guernsey.
It was done by stealth.Get a new set of training jumpers so the plebs can get used to seeing players in them,Then, without warning say that regardless of whether you like it or not, this is going to be our new playing strip.
A disaster of mismanagement by Rosich ,Harris and Co.
Unlike some here, and on Dockerland,I will not hand in my ticket,I love my football team too much for that. But I think it is going to take me a long time to get used to out new attire.
It will also take me a long time to think of Rosich,Harris and Co as FREMANTLE people. They are deceitful money grabbing corporates with no heart for the Fremantle Dockers.

Reason media go to dockerland an use them as a source of fans feedback is its only freo fans there.
Places like bigfooty u get other teams fans saying their bit, trolls pretending to be freo fans saying their bit so it cant be used for fan feedback aswell as dockerland can.
They wont know that the guy running the board rules with an iron fist an only allows what he wants on there.

Kate is their any truth to the rumour that the jumper change was decided on by a simple poll asking fans what jumper they would like to see the players train in on such an such date?
They showed 4 options an then took those results an decided it meant those were everyones fave jumper, when in actual fact noone cares what players wear to training, heck if they showed superman capes i would of voted for that.
Doesnt mean thats what i want to see them playing in week in week out.
Yet thats how they interpreted the results.

Sman-21, according to the latest issue of 'Docker' an email survey was sent out to something like 23,000* members. Of that 23,000 only about 2,900 members bothered to fill it out; that's the survey that most of the member/supporter/fan feedback gets referenced back to by the club.

I know I took the time to fill out the survey but it seems a lot of members didn't. Too bad for those 20,000 members if they're not happy about the changes I say.

The training jumper survey that was posed to the members - I think that was on the club website only? - seems to be used by the club now to show that it was a popular design, not the preferred design.

* I'm assuming that's all the members who registered for email correspondence?

Yeah, they were only lied to by the board. No biggie.

Wahey, new jumpers! Guess this means instant premiership.

Pity we've had three coaches depart and got boned in a trade for one of our KPPs.

Go Freo!

A lot of whinging seems to be going on.
We are obviously a club going in the right direction. A reasonably successful season, a solid profit, excellent renegotiations with Pav and Mundy (players with a 'go home' factor), a new league coach from our ranks and the ability to coax Jason MacCartney into our coaching panal.

Rebranding the club is necessary. It is like a fresh coat of paint. It doesn't get rid of our history but it allows us to improve some of the aspects of our club that have been seen as sub par. Our song is a poor one. It is hard to sing and not catchy. I could not imagine it being a draw card to potential new members.

Hopefully now that our jumper has changed we may be able to sing about "mighty big Vs";)

Kate hopefully you can continue pushing us forward both on and off the field.

Yeah, they were only lied to by the board. No biggie.

If you're asked your opinion on something and don't give it, you have no right to complain if you're unhappy with the result. There is another 18,000 odd members who have every right to be shitty however as they were never consulted AFAIK.

What is all this sarcastic nonsense about changing the jumper meaning we'll win a premiership that the anti-change crew keep going on about?

Pity we've had three coaches depart and got boned in a trade for one of our KPPs.

Assistant coaches leave clubs all the time; especially if they are offered a head coaching role...

We got a decent enough pick for Tarrant I would've thought. Aren't you the one arguing in another thread his departure won't make a difference anyway? I would've thought if he had no impact on our results we're lucky we got anything for him at all...

Would have been a much better start Kate.

Dont like your pompous attitude already, you dont have my vote.

Try coming across as genuine next time and you'll get a more receptive crowd.

No one was asked for their opinion on a change to Fremantle's jumpers and logos. Ever.

What is all this sarcastic nonsense about changing the jumper meaning we'll win a premiership that the anti-change crew keep going on about?

But I thought this jumper change was going to make us bold and exciting. That's what the club says. Surely this means premierships? Everyone says we're leaving the terrible history behind.

JLo and Wallis got head coaching roles?

I don't think he'll hurt that much, but he's a best 22 player, and a best 22 player should get you better than a third round pick. And certainly not benefit the club most likely to compete with you for a premiership next year. Instead, that's what happened.

But tralalalala. The board are doing a fantastic job because we didn't finish bottom four in 2010. No problems.

No, but they were asked their opinion on pretty much everything to do with the club except what colour socks the janitor should wear. If you didn't know the club was reviewing and possibly changing some of the clubs design elements where exactly have you been for the last year?

Look, I am somewhat disappointed with the way the club made the changes, but I have no problem with the changes themselves. Personally I love the new jumper. Well, except for the white one, but all the white jumpers suck balls IMO.

But I thought this jumper change was going to make us bold and exciting. That's what the club says. Surely this means premierships? Everyone says we're leaving the terrible history behind.

When has bold and exciting ever meant premierships? Does proud, loyal, passionate mean rebuilding? Can you smell what the Blues are cooking? It's just a marketing slogan, it doesn't mean anything.

Nothing will change the clubs history, or where the club has come from. Nothing.

I do hope that the club is leaving their unsuccessful on-field history behind them - I'm sure you do as well - that has nothing to do with jumpers, slogans and nicknames though.

JLo and Wallis got head coaching roles?

Not that I'm aware of. Possibly for more money, better opportunities or a weekly massage I honestly couldn't tell you.

The club is lucky to have gotten anything at all given the way Tarrant's manager handled the situation. Jesse Crichton, Justin Bollenhagen and Dylan Roberton all got picked up in the 3rd round last year one of them is certainly better than nothing.

Better Collingwood than Hawthorn or Carlton IMO.

But tralalalala. The board are doing a fantastic job because we didn't finish bottom four in 2010. No problems.

What?

Personally I love the new jumper.

See, I loved the old home jumper. Thought there was nothing wrong with it. Even if the red and green went, the basic design was fantastic.

But instead of that, we were presented with some cloying, craven attempt at resembling a 'proper' footy team, without understanding what actually makes a 'proper' footy team.

West Coast were regarded as a joke with their 'wings' jumper in the late 80s. They shut everyone up when they won their first premiership. Now everyone laughs at their successive attempts to remake their identity. Their original guernsey is now regarded as being a 'proper' footy guernsey.

I would rather have shut everyone up while we wore our original jumper by winning premierships.
