glass half empty or what?

I'll just re-word this for ya, if you don't mind.

i think we'll get no midfield injuries this year and our emerging key position players will stand up - gaspar will be fit, mcdougall will not ever be injured again, gardiner will make it through the full season...but we still might be not able to sneak in...

our best midfield rotation did well last year for injuries, and just like luck, it comes around so it's going to happen sooner or later whether you want to believe it or not.
and these key position players are already in trouble. gaspar is already on the long term injury list for christs sake. darren glass has missed a bit chunk of pre-season because of surgery, so he'll be ordinary for the first part of the season and take a look at mcdougall's career, he can barely get through a few games in the wafl without breaking down so like gaspar his body is just crap, it's sad etc.. but lets call it for what it is...and gardiner never makes it through a full year because we use him in the centre bounces. i'd like to see gardiner around the ground and leave cox for the centre bounces and then move up forward but i don't see it happening. haynes is gone and he was nothing special but he was something. is chick's shoulder fixed? if it's not he might aswell not be playing, but he'll be out there anyway.
im an eagles fan since forever, but i don't have my head in the clouds - if that makes me negative then so be it...I just see too many teams exposing us for height this year, especially in defence. sure, we've got speed and we'll look good over here but i can't see us pushing past our peformance from last year.

Shoulder surgery doesn't stop you from training Glass was back in full training at the start of January. Glass will be ready to play Round 1 if not sooner.

Thats 10 AFL games straight and he didn't play in our final due to a broken jaw.

I can see what you are trying to say but I think that you are looking at the end of last season and thinking that those injuries are still relevant. Chick Gradiner and Kerr have all had surgery to fix their problems. With up to 17 talls in our squad I doubt that we could have an injury run to our talls as bad as last year.

I don't have my head in the clouds either. Last year we re-established the house of pain and this year we will concentrate on winning more away games.

I would pencil in at least 4-6 away games which should see us improve on last years position.

Hasn't travis gaspar injured his foot again?? If I'm wrong then I'm wrong but I was sure he had. To be honest, from what I've seen of him he looks too clumsy around his feet and nothing special in a contested mark (not that he's had consistent opportunities to be fair). I just don't like these players that come back time and time again only to be gone a few games later with another injury - no matter how good their potential might be.

No doubt he's done laps or whatever, but you surely can't tell me he hasn't missed a lot of contested training?

I may have been a little hard on mcdougall, but I followed his career at Perth and I stand by my assertion. IMO the figures you gave at AFL have flattered him because he wasn't playing the key forward position which he seems to be earmarked for this year, and he was used off the bench. So after he has to play 22 rounds, 4 quarters per round in the spotlight, we'll see how his body stands up.

Of course we have talls in reserve but what they'll do for you up against top 22 talls of another team is another question.

And as far as Gardiner goes I have no doubt his injury problems from last year are gone, my point was that they're bound to return - history proves me correct.

The only thing I'm interested in seeing is how these new guys we've got go off half back. I think they'll add a nice new dimension if they run off and link up with the midfield, because that's why I thought we got out pants pulled down too much over the past couple of years - if our runners didn't get back then we were screwed.

Pessimism personified.
