Looking like re build is required right now. Big gulf in the 21-26 year old bracket and the kids under 21 are largely untried for obvious reasons. We are seeing now how uncompetitive we are with our older stars either missing or out of form

26. Nank. Aarts.
25. Short. Soldo.
24. George. Chol. Rioli.
23. Baker. Graham. DES.
22. Garthwaite. Bolton. Naish.

Not all doom and gloom. Waiting for some to step up... Be nice when Bolton signs the thing.

If you think about it, we've actually started to have the refresh through necessity. Ross RCD & Mansell have been given extended runs at it through necessity due to injuries. All have shown some good signs and also made some rookie errors at times but will get better as a result. We've got another couple of youngsters looking for a crack in CCJ and Rioli Jr, Martyn got a look at it, Dow has returned from injury to start his season, Stack is building back to fitness, Naish has worked his way into the 23 and could push into the 22, Ralphsmith was close to getting a debut, so the kids are trying to take their chances. Add to that the draft hand that we've got and the refresh could get a real boost if we become aggressive with our list changes at seasons end.

If we are to refresh properly, then we need to get A or B-grade talent across from other teams this off-season. We don’t have the top picks to be bringing in A-graders like Petracca and Matt Rowell through the draft (Shai Bolton is the exception - not the rule) so we need to bring them in through trading. We have more than enough picks to do this (although salary cap may be a concern).

If I’m going to be specific, we need to be going for a good tall defender and an elite small forward. Right now, there isn’t much competition for those spots which is why we’ve kept the same line-up in those areas regardless of how they’re performing this season.

Midfield would be the next area, but not as necessary as those parts of the grounds in the immediate future in my opinion. Apart from that I think we have the players to successfully do a quick refresh should we dip this year or next year.
Talls wouldn't go astray either, Jack & Astbury can't go on forever & we don't have a great deal coming through in the bookends.

This 100%. These kids can play, they just don't have enough snr players around them as they are injured atm, especially the midfield. These games are gold for them going fwd tho. The last point you make is rather important, in order to use our Draft hand we'll need to make some tough calls at yrs end. I'd like us to use all 6 picks in the Draft (at least 5 if we can trade up the order) so that means 5-6 players will need to go.

Astbury (shouldn’t go on)
Houli (shouldn’t go on)
Edwards (depending on how serious that injury is)
Cotchin (shouldn’t go on)
Riewoldt (Shouldn’t go on)

Unfortunately for the club, that’s not going to happen

Lol what club in history has ever cancelled the contracts of five premiership legends like these in one end of season bloodletting.

Much bedwetting going on. No bloodletting.

Those five players have given Richmond so much joy in the last few years they can retire whenever they like as far as I'm concerned.

Some very embarrassing posts here today.

Agree [emoji817]. Though let’s turf DES Chol and Garthwaite.

Richmond is the most dramatic, catastrophising thinking supporter base by a mile . Fk me we are a mighty team , will be without much change for the next 2 years . We then let RCD Dow Ralphsmith Sir Sydney Ccj Graham Ross Balta Baker Maurice Cumberland become the core . With a few big recruits and smart drafting we will rise again . And soon .

Stop the fear mongering fellow Tigers . We aint Carlton or Essendon. Ffs close this stupid thread.

Most on here want aarts, chol, rioli, des, garthwaite and naish gone

Soldo is coming off a knee, who knows.

That leaves nank, short, Baker, Graham and Bolton. I'll throw in balta too.

The cupboard is bare, very bare. As bare as when hardwick took over. Probably worse really, given we had almost all our current 27+ age stars on the list at that time.

Its understandable. The club sacrificed somewhat to build and keep the team together, losing middle tier players and getting poor draft picks generally due to finishing high or trading them. And noone in their right mind would think it hasn't been worth it. But there is a steep steep cliff coming and we are going to fall hard. Harder than hawthorn I fear.

Worst post I’ve read . Completely irrational and based on nothing but anxiety. Worse than hawthorn ?? Ffs .

I think this off season we should be eyeing off Collingwood’s carcass. They will be desperate to get into the first round and we have two picks. Wishful thinking but Darcy Moore would be a huge get.
Get Balmey out to have a coffee and chat with Moore. A good history in convincing players to come to Tigerland.

Not sure we are struggling because of talent, skill or gameplan… feels like we are finally suffering from a premiership hangover, the hunger just seems gone. Do you blame the players? 3 in 4 years is enough to fulfill a lifetime of ambition

A lot players are making mistakes in the back half under pressure, especially when our midfield pressure drops off.

Also big issues with our forward line.

Not bare at all and have changed my mind I mean how can you not after witnessing a demolition job by 50-year-olds grandpas against 30 years 3-time premiers! I'll go to church today as miracles do happen and I shall pray we win another 2 before our players get to that age.

nah thats crap... if we did the three peat they would go down as the greatest team to ever do it. we just need to adapt our game style to the rules and what is being rewarded by the AFL.

Soldo, nank, short, baker, graham , bolton(?) Doesn't look too bad for the mid age bracket.

Macca and vlastuin have just turned 27 so should have a bit of footy left in them.

Itd be nice to have markov Higgins butler Ellis etc. Available but can't keep them all

Looking at our PF and PA so far compared to some of the strong teams this year. Not tracking well. Our forward structure and movement is horrible and we can't score freely and teams are picking apart and scoring on our defence.

We've got to make some changes to either style or personnel if we want to contend next year.

Right on the money! Those players need to be respected and sent off as Richmond champions. They will not hold the club to ransom by staying longer than they should. In Jack's case, he's been playing like someone 5 years younger than he is.

At quarter time against Geelong we were $1.20 to win the game. Must have been doing something right. Even at half time I felt we had control of the game. Uncharacteristic skill errors from our defenders (Broad, Vlastuin, and Mansell) led to 4 easy goals to the opposition in the 3rd quarter which not only gave them a sniff, it opened the door wide. Lynch failing to take easy 1 grab marks in our forward line deprived us of goal scoring opportunities as well. Add to that some questionable umpiring decisions and the Cats were away. Full of confidence and with no time for Richmond to come back they exacted some revenge. Good luck to them. Also compounded by missing 3 of our best midfielders and one of our best defenders. Multiple premiership players can be forgiven for the odd bad game.

I firmly believe we will get on a roll and top 4 is not out of the question. Melbourne, Bulldogs, Geelong would all be very nervous about the prospect of playing an in-form Richmond come September.
