That list might need to be updated because I own quite a few of those on dvd, all bought in Australia.

LMAO @ Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 being refused classification. It pretty much goes to show that the people who make these decisions never actually watched it because that movie is tame as hell and a COMPLETE departure from the original. It's almost like a comedy ffs.

I imagine some w***er sitting in their office just saw the title and said, "ooh this sounds bad, we've banned the first one....may as well ban this as well."

seen a few of those (and own a few on dvd). I know some have been previously banned (eg Cannibal Holocaust) and then re-rated when released on dvd in Australia (these are mostly older movies). Some are definitely not on dvd in Australia, and some may be R rated movies on dvd in Aust which have been cut, or I assume were originally cut for vhs, then uncut for dvd (possibly Bad Taste??)

have seen these (have done some notes on dvds of any I know about).

9 Songs - on dvd here, has real sex scenes. didn't realize it was refused classification.
Bad Taste - on dvd here uncut (there's a vhs version too)
Baise-Moi - definitely banned, on dvd overseas. Real sex with violence.
Brood, The - I have this on Aussie vhs, no idea about dvd.
Cannibal Apocalypse - saw this on tv once, obviously edited
Cannibal Holocaust - I own the uncut Aussie dvd. (warning: animal killing, thankfully has an option to watch the "animal cruelty free version", or I would not have bought it myself)
Dawn of the Dead (1978) - on dvd (and vhs) in Aust uncut (the US 4 disc version is much better though) - a horror masterpiece.
Day of the Dead - on dvd in Aust uncut
Faces of Death
Guinea Pig: Devil's Experiment - not on dvd here, is in the US (extreme gore)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer - not on dvd here but is on vhs, there's a US DVD (and surprisingly a uncut UK one which I own) - excellent, though brutal movie, one of the best movies based on a real serial killer IMO, along with Zodiac, Citizen X, and Monster.
Hills Have Eyes, The (1977) - watched it on vhs
Idiots, The - on dvd here. watched it on sbs.
Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS - not on dvd here
Intruder (1988) - not on dvd here, there was a heavily edited vhs when it came out. I own a german dvd of it which is uncut. (is made by the Evil Dead crew - Sam & Ted Raimi and Bruce campbell all act in it, Scott Spiegel directed)
Irreversible - on dvd here
I Spit on your Grave - on dvd here
Ken Park - has real sex scenes, but banned for a violent sex scene.
Last House on the Left, The - on dvd here
Man Behind the Sun - not on dvd here, however I thought Australia was one of the few countries to give this a rating when it came out - apparently the story goes that when the film rating board were watching it, the projectionist turned it off on them because he couldn't handle watching more of it. I have seen it listed in a Universities library catalogue on vhs, but whether that's an official release or not I have no idea. Is extreme gore, but based on a little known (at least as far as documentaries/film go) true war crime story (I assume that's why a Uni had it)
Man Bites Dog
Mordum - not on dvd here (extreme gore)
Ninja Scroll - on dvd & vhs here. Anime movie.
Salo-120 Days of Sodom - not sure (or care) if there's a dvd here ;). on dvd & blu-ray in the US
Slaughtered Vomit Dolls - not on dvd here (extreme gore)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The - on dvd here uncut (own it)
Toxic Avenger, The
Urotsukidoji-Legend of Overfiend - there's a dvd here with both movies, but I believe one of them may be cut (number 2 I think). Anime movies.
Urotsukidoji 2-Legend of Demon Womb

Also seen these seemingly out of place movies, which I assume were cut to get a lower rating like M/M15+ instead of R. Can't think why else they'd be on the list. I do remember when Totall Recall came out there were both M and R rated versions at cinemas, as being a youngster I were disappointed I had to see the M one.

Dead Man
Hannibal
Hard Target
Payback
Lethal Weapon 4
Men in Black
Predator 2
Rock, The
Silence of the Lambs, The
Three Kings
Total Recall

I just noticed if you click on the links it has info on why they were banned/cut etc and if they're on dvd here :o

Great Write Up Tima :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I have seen a few of them to. I still cant believe 9 Songs is at my local Video Ezy it has more real sex than some cheap pornos!

If anyone wants to see what the fuss is about with these banned movies just You Tube search them and their trailers come up!! I must say Mordum and Slaughtered Vomit Dolls are Very disturbing!

Yeah I've seen a bunch of them. I'm not sure why Bad Taste and Ninja Scroll are on that list though. They have been available on VHS from the start, I think.

Mordum seems alright if you ask me would not mind seeing that. All i know is i dont find horror films scary so i have to more up a level lol...

Vomit Gore? Haha, wtf. Is that what Slaughtered Vomit Dolls is about? Vomit Gore?

I searched Mordum and it came up with White Heat trailer, aka Snuff Movie 1.

Anyone game enough to go to the White Heat website?

haha, I tried that White Heat website - looks like it's down at the moment. Looks like it's an Aussie movie going by the directors myspace.

Hard to tell what Slaughtered Vomit Dolls is about :p It's sort of filmed like an art house film, with hand held cameras, but it's very dodgy, and a mess of a film. Has a fair bit of nudity, and does have vomitting, but it's just people sticking their fingers down their throats. To be honest it's a boring piece of crap (I actually skipped through parts of it after a while). From what I remember, it's not as bad gore wise as the August Underground films (Mordom) or the Guinea Pig films.

I should say too, that even though I've seen some of these movies (the extreme gore ones), I'm not a fan to be honest. I'll sometimes come across discussions like this thread, or lists or whatever of disturbing films, and like a car wreck I can't look away. I'm interested in movie make-up/special effects too, so gore alone I can handle without throwing up. :D

The Guinea Pig and August Underground ones are interesting from a "special effects showcase" point of view, but nothing else in my opinion. They are very disturbing as far as gore goes, but personally I find movies with little gore like Henry, Funny Games, Requiem For A Dream, Threads, Come and See, more disturbing as they are actually good movies that pull you into the movie and characters, unlike the extreme gore garbage.

Or documentaries - if anyone wants to see a disturbing documentary, watch "Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills". It won an Emmy, so it's not someone backyard job, but it contains footage of the bodies, and then becomes disturbing on a completely different level. If anyone's interested in true crime tv shows, or court room dramas, this is a must see in my opinion. It's been posted on youtube too by the way (I assume the bodies will be cut - they are before the opening credits), or there's an excellent Aussie dvd which includes the sequel.

Romance was definetly on SBS about 5 years ago.
I was channel surfing before going to bed one night and saw a very very attractive lady and a bloke just having a chat in French, went cleaned my teeth came back and BANG! Both going at it hammer and nail and it was def not simulated either, from the their it was just a sausage and pie show, i honestly could not believe what i was seeing.
My sister saw 120 Days of Sodom when it was showing in Melb some years ago amidst protests and hoha and when i asked her for a review on the film her reply was "Eat shit and die" , that was her review it was not directed at me.
Their was also a big stink when Ken Park was shown a few years ago at ACMI in Fed Square, Govt funded pornography i believe.

Yeah a group of us went too and saw it in Melbourne at the Trak Cinemas I think...I now have a DVD copy of it which I got in China last year. I can understand the controversy surrounding the movie..but really it is pretty boring save for a couple of scenes.

Now you got me thinking....I have a copy of Cannibal Holocaust on VHS - couldn't believe it when the Blair Witch came out and totally ripped off the premise of the whole thing. Missing documentary makers...found footage years later etc. I think the makers got into a bit of strife by actually setting fire to a real tribal village and slaughtering one of their pigs on film.

The "Faces of Death" series started ok but disintegrated pretty quickly into a parody of set up scenes in Part 4. Try "Death Scenes" parts 1 & 2 for a bit more authenticity.

There is (or was) a good book out called "Killing for Culture" which goes through all of those expolitation films one by one highlighting (amongst other things) what scenes are faked and what are real. I might try and dig it up again from the book-shelf...

I saw that too years ago at the old Panorama Cinema on Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Quite a few people walked out and I must admit, it left me with some visions that were hard to forget.

Used to be able to hire this on VHS at my video store in the late 80s early 90s. True. Then it disappeared when Bloackbuster bought the place out.

Want i dont understand how come there is a shop in Melbourne that sell most of the movies on this list. I would of thought if they are banned they would not be for sale from anywhere.

It is a bit of a play on words,
What really happend is that Gail Malone and the Queensland Film Board of Review banned something like 200 movies in that state, between 1974 - 1990.

It was not a national ruling,
but a "Controversial, Banned in Australia" Movie will shift more units,
no matter how crap it is, or if it was only banned in one state.

I recently saw it for the first time.

It's over indulgent rubbish.
