Dayne Beams taking another indefinite break from footy for mental health issues. Eddie right now

Don't come at me but when I read this my head can't help but think he has some sort of addiction and Collingwood Public Relations is working magically.

The way the article is written seems to be covering arse just in case it leaks somewhere along the lines that he's addicted to gambling or drugs

He's addicted to gambling. I feel for the guy, it is obviously taking over his life. Good to see he's made a brave call which hopefully sees him out on top.

Collingwood really stuffed that trade. Firstly, their midfield was already good so there was no real advantage (a key forward is what they need). Secondly, they would have known about his troubles so it was a stupid risk.

It was a lose-lose situation for them, either pay massive overs for someone they don't need or look like jerks for not picking him up again. Collingwood got put between a rock and a hard place.

His life is probably ****ed so here's hoping he sorts it out for his families sake and his well-being.
Acknowledging it's an issue is important step and I hope Collingwood support him as much as they can until it's worked out.

One of the New Zealanders in the test match just mentioned how much harder the surface of the ground is at Optus compared to what he's used to (he's a seasoned fast bowler). Hopefully the hardness of the ground isn't an ongoing problem in 2020.

Haha I heard that too and thought "oh great" [emoji849]

No way would Collingwood have looked like jerks if they didn't pick him up. I think he was contracted as well.

Well that puts a new light on Jaidyn Stephenson.

I don't think Beams spontaneously decided to leave Brisbane and seek a trade to Collingwood - they'd have been in his ear about coming back.

Yeh, Collingwood might've asked him to roll the dice on his future prospects, Lions v Pies.

By the way saw this miserable article on the Sydney based foxsports site. Not sure whether it belongs in this thread or the 'biased, incompetent' one.

Shit, it's as if people might have something else to do on a Thursday or Friday before Christmas, like turn up to those jobs to prop up the national economy.
Those Sydneysiders must just be really passionate about their cricket during the period where most businesses are closed.

Somewhat, although the rumor is that Beams had his gambling issues in Brisbane and saw the move back to Melbourne as a chance to break the cycle (one that obviously hasn't worked).

Gambling is right up there with recreational drugs as major player welfare issues that the league don't want to properly address.

There are semi-regular rumors of players with $1m+ gambling debts (beams being one of the more recent rumors). Clearly AFL players are being targeted by the gaming industry. The league doesn't want to know due to sponsorship revenue.

So a gambler though that going to a city with poker machines everywhere is going to fix the problem?

Hmm [emoji848]

Nah they could have just said sorry we dont have the cap space which was probably true . Now they have to shed players to pay a player who isnt playing .

It may sound a bit insensitive but it looks like his depression is from being massivly in debt from gambling .

He has bought it on himself . Playing football and commiting himself to his training and the club should be the first thing helping him get away from gambling .

Gambling / social media could be greatly reduced by getting rid of his smart phone
