How did the club benefit from having Bishop on the board? How did we members benefit? Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to what board members do to make our club better. I know they haven’t made our midfield better.

Their job is to provide governance and oversight for the organisation and manage strategic direction and issues. Day to Day operations are handled by the CEO and Football Department.

The advantage of having influential people on your board is that they bring varied experience to help with the strategy/governance etc and they also are well connected and can assist with things like sponsorship, government funding etc, which are vital for football clubs. I'd assume Bishop was very helpful in getting those millions of dollars that the federal Government tipped into the Lathlain redevelopment.

No sympathy for Port from me. If the guernsey really was traditional (i.e. Port entered the comp affiliated with the Port Magpies) I think they would be entitled to some dispensation to use it on occasion, but they didn't.

At any rate, whether or not it 'hurts' Collingwood, I don't think it sets a good precendent to let a club change their guernsey to be markedly similar to that of another club. I expect I am probably in the minority here but to me Collingwood are well within their rights to tell Port to get ****ed.

+1
I think my hate of Port may cloud things but stuff them. I know VFL etc. Let them wear it in their HOME showdown, take it or leave it. Just another leech on the AFL they are.

Let them wear it in the showdowns, the rest is just bleating. They joined a league under a different name knowing that Collingwood had been in that league and had basically the same jumper.

I would be pissed if some ammos Eagles team from QLD got a license and tried to wear basically the same jumper as us. No organisation would tolerate that level of IP infringement.

This is such a dumb nothing argument, I'm half convinced it's some genius SEO marketing move to keep Port relevant by tying them to Collingwood.

Yeah I agree, they came in as a new club and they knew they wouldn't be able to use their old jumper.
If they really want to wear prison bars they should just make a black and teal version and wear that.

Lol - that is such an obvious solution that really shows how BS this whole thing is.

Meanwhile, we've pretty much had all the colours of the rainbow in our jumper over the years (thanks to the Ochre)

It's the same football club that entered the AFL that had previously played in the SANFL. The current SANFL team was the (at the time) unaffiliated one.

They'd be wearing some form of the PB since 1902. That's traditional.

You're probably right, I don't have the details. Doesn't change the fact that Collingwood basically wear a guernsey that is strikingly similar to the one they want and have been sonce they entered so tough t***ies imo.

On a contrary note

What if we treated it like it truly was a national comp.

Collingwood get to wear it all year - but every time they play port - its for the jersey.

The winner of the last match gets to wear their jersey - the loser has to wear a clash strip.

What a way to put some spite in the game, create interest from neutrals and increase numbers at and watching the game. Create real rivalries outside of the traditional rivalries - acknowledge ports history but only if they earn it.

Why not! Have them play each other 22 times a year and swap after each loss. A battle royale with not a tooth in sight.

As for the rest of us not interested in bread and circuses, it would be nice if the attention was on the million other inequities in this 'national' competition.

Plus Julie looked like a fox on GF day 2018.

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion but I think teams should be able to wear whatever jumper they want, and at home they can choose what strip to wear, and the visiting team must were a jumper that does not clash.

Collingwood don't have a right to black and white stripes just as much as we don't have a right to blue and gold. As long as the 'competing' team does not profess to be the Magpies or the Eagles then all power to them. Would a person be less likely to buy an Eagles jumper if another team in the AFL also had blue and gold colours? Plenty of teams in soccer have extremely similar jerseys but nowhere near as much bleating as what we're seeing now.

Are you like a 14 yo young liberal whos grandma was cold and forbidding and you want to bang her?

Thats the only situation i can imagine where she would seem attractive.

I'm a millennial card carrying tanky and Julie Bishop, she can get it.

Those pompom earrings on GF day, that stupid celebration where she shakes her hands like a seal, phwoar. :fire:

Speaking of #1 ticket holders - Stephen Coniglio holds that honour for Perth Glory. You can't tell me he's not looking west...

If I was the number 1 ticket holder for that mob I’d be looking the other way tbh.

I second this. Gold Coast has a long and successful history of using primarily gold & blue in their clash jumpers. No one mistakes Gold Coast for us.

It’s also important to note that Port aren’t asking to wear it every round of every season. Just in showdowns where they face another SA team. If anything it adds more flavour to that match up. ‘The rest of the SANFL V Port Adelaide’ on national TV.
