i cant believe the tournament organisers scrapped the reserve days. it could potentially ruin the tournament. if a team has washouts vs a team like bangladesh like the west indies did, they are effectively being robbed of two points, and are in danger of missing a super 6 spot which they deserve. why should south africa get a decided advantage because the rain stayed away for their matches???

if this game (aus v holl) were to be washed out, i cant see why they cant play the rest of it tomorrow, particularly considering the ground is not being used, and the teams are not playing.

Agreed. Matches at each ground are about 4 days, sometimes more, apart. There really should have been reserve days in place for every match. The only possible problem I can think of is with the television networks trying to cover a multitude of concurrent matches. But then why should sport always bow to tv?

yes, that is true about conflicting coverages, but why wouldnt they continue broadcasting as per normal?? if we miss the reserve day's play becuase another match is on... doesn't matter, we'd also miss it if there was no reserve day to begin with.

Which reinforces my view that these dud teams should not be in the World Cup

i wouldnt go that far. name another world cup where 50% of nations competing are offering realistic odds (less than 25-1) of winning the tournament before it starts.

Point taken, I would just hate to see South Africa qualify because of the rain rule I just hope the same thing happens to them. BTW how many points would Aus take from this game into the super 6 if it was washed out ???? Given that they would take 1pt from 4 for a victory, would it be half a point from 2 ???? or zero. (Not that it should matter anyway )

A better alternative would be that in the case of a washout between a Test nation (like Australia) and a minnow (like Holland), that the Test nation should get the points as if they've won the game.

It's unfair for the minnow, but it would be a better and fairer result for the tournament's sake then what happened after the Windies v Bangladesh wipeout.

From this game, none. Only the points you've won against the other sides in your pool that make it through to the Super 6's are carried over.

Just to clarify, 1 point carried through for each win against non-qualifiers, 0.5 for each tie/no result against non-qualifiers.

The only day that didnt have any scheduled World Cup games (not including the Zim vs Eng, NZ vs Ken) was Tuesday 17th February.

I know the WC is already long enough, but having a few extra days that are free on the Pool Group games would have a good idea for future planners.

having said that, there are grounds that are vacant for several days, as well as teams that dont play for several days. i would have thought it possible for the most amateur of schedulers to work something out.
