I just heard on the news that Collingwood resumes preseason training today. I'm pretty sure there are others who have played finals who have already returned to preseason training as well. However it seems that each year our boys always seem to be one of the last to begin preseason (this year it's November 6th), even though we haven't been playing finals of late. Considering that our fitness has been questionable in terms of running out games over the last couple of years, you would think they would be on the track as soon as the mandatory break is up and try and get as much of a head start as possible.

Just wondering if anyone else has wondered the same thing.

I don't know what the results were at the end of the year, but after the St Kilda game, Luke Ball noted that Essendon had won the most last quarters of any team in the competition. We were definately running out games better last year.

I don't think any other finals teams have started, but if Collingwood start today, I presume they will have a longer break at Christmas. Something we did a couple of years ago, and didn't work for us.

Most non-finals sides start next Monday.

We did run games out better last year and although the official back to training date is November 6 i can tell you that a good number of the playing group have already had a few runs ;)

True Longy we did finish games better last year than 2004, however some sides, such as the Roos have decided to get a jump on others and start early.

I would like to think that maybe we would want to do a similar thing, set ourselves up to do well in the NAB Cup, as traditionally when we have a good preseason comp we tend to do well when the real stuff starts. Especially in recent seasons where we have had a habit of starting off slow.

I don't think the entire list at the Roos are back at training, just some younger blokes (I could be wrong though).

As Ant already touched on, most of our players are back training in some for or another on their own accord.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Think with the Roos they had some fitness testing a week or 2 ago. Those who failed the testing/skinfolds had to go back to training a bit before the rest of the group.

All i can say is, no need to worry about Fletcher having to train hard in the off season...he was as sharp as anyone goalkeeping yesterday. A great captain's performance from him...
