I was having a look at the 2000 AFL draft because it's probably Port's best (or one of) AFL draft since entering the competition.

However, after looking at it, it seems to be a good draft year in itself overall, but overshadowed by the greatest draft year ever in the following year.

Anyway, just curious about your thoughts on the draft?

Best bargains and worst blunders from it?

How would you re-write the top 10 picks today?

Also interesting is Didak, Burgoyne, Thompson and Johncock all from the Magoos in the one year.

1. Riewoldt
2. Thompson
3. Kerr
4. Didak
5. S.Burgoyne
6. K.Cornes
7. Cross
8. Newman
9. Pratt
10. Johncock

Going by best picks from their position these spring to mind. Johncock, Cross, Newman, Williams and Cassisi were good picks for their numbers. Pratt and McPhee good as well.

Kosi is overated. Very average player.

39. Fremantle - Adam McPhee (Dandenong Stingrays) - GOOD PICK
51. Fremantle - Dion Woods (Perth) - PERFECT PICK = DANIEL CROSS
66. Fremantle - Scott Thornton (Sandringham Dragons) PERFECT PICK = GRAHAM JOHNCOCK
Not a bad draft for us pick wise really. McPhee was a steal at 39, wish we kept him.
Dion Woods would have been a gun had his Dad not passes.
At 66 Thornton has done as much out of a player picked that late as you would have hoped. Would have been better if he wasn't sick his entire career.

biggest blunders are everyone in the top 10 except the top 3 and Motlop. Kosi isn't close to the 2nd best player from the draft, but he's still the 2nd best key forward and without him we wouldn't be a chance of the flag this year so happy with that.

best pickup is Johncock at 67 although he could be one of those blokes that is never as good as they should have been. Cross, Newman, Casissi also good value down the bottom.

couple of great recycled players as well in Pike (probably the most successful bloke from this draft) and Wakelin (wtf did we delist him?)

1. Riewoldt

Daniel Pratt? Ahead of Kosi. Seriously?
