- a few teammates who don't sell him into trouble, or possibly some that may alert him to the fact he's about to get chased down

- another midfielder to help him :o

he can kick off his right foot pretty well actually

he just was not mentally prepared for this game

he may have got ahead of himself with all the attention during the week

I remember reading the form guide by that guy who does those incredibly detailed reports on all the draft prospects and he made a point of saying Rhys tries to take the game on a bit too much and would get found out at the top level trying this stuff. Seems quite prescient based on today. I think he has great character and will get better at working out when he can take it on.

1 bad game
He let the attention an praise get to his head thought he was superman an got bought back down to earth.

Will learn from this an still gonna be great for us.

Yeah, that's something you learn from experience. But better you take them on and fail than die wondering. I certainly wouldn't be discouraging that sort of thing at this stage in his career.

No definitely not! I love his attitude and the way he goes about it.

Sort of lends credence to the theory someone posted on here that Rhys was left out of the R1 game because Harves and co thought he was getting ahead of himself after a good preseason.

Maybe (and this is just a theory) we will have to treat the ultra confident Rhys slightly differently from normal rookies. Instead of trying to build up his confidence he might need to be reminded occasionally to tone it down and play the percentages a little more.

Then again, that sort of approach is what we blamed Medders' decline on. Who'd want to be a coach hey?

F**k it. Let him go for it. We lack players who take the game on so if we have to put up with a few teething problems from Staples while he adjust to the pace of AFL so be it.

Once we were getting belted palmer tried to take the game on. Credit to him for trying to create a spark when we needed it... P.s those couple of time he got caught, he had walls of richmond people around and idiots like peake standing flat footed looking disinterested... Id rather get tackled too

My only criticism is when he takes on a player and knows he's gonna be tackled is to move it on any way he can by hand or foot.

at least the boy is tryting. I fhe learns from his mistakes, adapts and refines his game which we all think he will then he'll be fine. Remeber it's only his third game in the sysytem and he got a bit of a 'welcome to the AFL' yesterday.
