There has been surprisingly little discussion about Palmer since he returned.
I suppose that's an indication of how players like Hill, Barlow, Mundy, Mora have stepped up in the midfield that we are not too concerned how long it takes Rhys to work his way back to top form.
I thought his last couple of games have been quite encouraging in the the way he's running them out, starting to link up nicely and his kicking has been pretty penetrating on the run although set shots a little iffy. He did some nice work in the back half this week.
What luxury that he is only a cog in our midfield rotation now. Has the potential to really add something to the top level of our performances once he really hits hits straps which is exciting.

Yup - easy does it - spread the work around.

Maybe he needs to work more on his blondie crocodile mullet to get a bit more attention. :)

Dunno what his game time for Collingwood was but only had 60% against Brisbane and 67% against Sydney (I'd say against Collingwood would be similar) both stats from the Sunday Herald Sun paper (not sure where to find online, they don't have the same stats on website)

So I like the fact that he is being eased back into it and not having to take such a big role in terms of pressure.

I thought his game against Sydney was his best so far. Slowly seeing him get back to the Rhys we know. I have a feeling that next week against North Melb will be a really good game for him.

My weekly "Fantasy Freako" email tells me that up until the Sydney game, Palmer averaged 65% TOG. Other low numbers ... Roberton 61%, Morabito 69%, Hasleby 70%, Fyfe 74%, Barlow 76%, Mundy 76%. Of the regulars, the remaining inexperienced players (Hill, Balla, Mayne, etc) tend to be in the low 80s, then the rest like Duffield, Pav, etc are in the high 80s-90s. Tarrant basically never comes off.

I reckon when the rain started falling, Rhys really started to get back into it. Hoping for a big game this week.

If the rove from 2:20 onwards doesn't excite you, then you're not a Freo supporter.

Oh yea. :thumbsu::thumbsu: That was some of the stuff he was doing regularly in his Rising Star debut year. He'll get back to it in time. I'm just excited that his best is still to come.

Also, how good was the tackling in that video. How ferocious are our boys now. So good to see.

If any of you haven't already subscribed to Dockerland's youtube feed, do yourself a favour and do it. Shane rarely misses with those videos.

Softly softly for Rhys. I'll be happy if he can keep on contributing his little bit and stay fit. Just think of the headaches opposition coaches are going to have when he hits top form... you can't tag Mundy, Barlow, Hill, Hasleby and Palmer. That's the beauty of our current midfield. If one or two of those blokes get taken out of the game, there's someone else to step up to the plate and dominate. Add in midfield performances from the likes of Suban, Morabito, Pavlich, Crowley, Ibbotson, Duffield and de Boer and you have some fantastic midfield depth.

Great to think that Palmer isn't just catching up to where he was before being injured, he's looking better. Heard good things about him improving his disposals in training and the wafl and so far imo it's paying dividends. I think with the accuracy of some of our newer players his poorer disposals (and he was never that bad just not consistent) would have stood out more this season.

Also great that he's being eased back in as far as game time, good for Palmer as I'd hate to see another injury but imo it's also another good sign for the team that we just don't need our couple of best players giving absolutely everything all game. There's enough talent there now that if everyone plays well for their 60, 70, 80% game time we're not missing out while they're being rotated.

Except for Sandilands of course :D Although even there, I probably wasn't the only one at the begining of the season thinking he'd be our biggest lost to injury, even more than Pav and he still would be but if the worst case does happen, with our mid field playing so well you put Bradley and MJ in there and we're hurting BIG time but we're not exactly dead in the water...

but yeah Palmer, nice to have you back :).

Nice clip and cool song too. Rhys is getting better and better every week and its so heartening to see. How happy does he looking being out there and winning too :)

On a side note, when did they change the socks? Looks a bit strange....

I think he will really start to excel in the second half of the season. If any of the young blokes like Barlow start to fall away a little Palmer will fill the void ye ha

looked like pav was wearing buckets.

Noticed a few times in that vid, Rhys handball backwards, when you would expect him to take a quick sidestep and take the man on. There could be any reason for it, but i think it shows that perhaps he isn't yet fully confident in his knee. If that's the case, I hope it's not too far away.

Yeah I've noticed that a bit since he returned. I can't think of a single time this season where he's taken his man on, whereas it happened a few times a week back in '08. He'll get there eventually though.

As well as the recon, I don't reckon all the criticism of his kicking would've done his confidence any good either.
